Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
| As a parent of young elementary schoolers on the other side of the county, it is very off putting to keep getting emails from the superintendent about this. The first email just drew attention to something I was not even aware was a problem. Can we get a superintendent that focuses on real issues? She should expect everyone in the chain of command to follow the rules, and when they don't, quickly fix it. Why is she bending over backward to cover for a football team? |
I think most would read it as Fritts thinking it could redound to his own personal benefit, but you do you. |
Because she thinks a progressive White woman needs to be an "ally" of a Black principal and coach when they are accused of wrongdoing. She obviously isn't interested in a level playing field among FCPS high schools or high standards of integrity. |
Reading this, I took it like Overton was truly sought after, ok fine, I believe they already had in their minds just like anywhere else with Overton coming in “some” kids would follow, and in my head the mention of 10 starters comment was basically a subtle shot at the players already there not being good enough and that with new coach comes better players. |
This doesn't happen, actually. Kids don't jump from public HS to public HS following "their" coach around. |
| There was no opening for a head coach. The AS and principal cannot seek candidates for a non-vacancy. |

Ridiculous how badly FCPS handled this. Now 400+ hours, multiple community meetings, 2 lawsuits, 2 multi-coach letters, 1 all-hands coaches meeting at Gatehouse, cops called on press, 7 Board member letters, 3 superintendent letters, VHSL sanction on 2 counts plus 2 appeals that upheld sanctions, judge injunction lifted, Dec 4 coming up and thanks to Reid and School Board, Chad Richardo could just run his same news update that he did from 6 months ago:

I feel a 12 days of Playoffs/football song could be written: on the first day of playoffs…. |
Stop it, please stop lying about a known epidemic, this one is only where it’s at based on the number of transfers not transfer in general |
My kids have been knowing them since preschool as well and there are some kids who haven’t lived in the zone that long. I know for a fact the Herndon football coach was recruiting and trying to sway a kid with private school opportunities, but lived in the zone into attending Herndon. They do it for basketball too, as there is a sophomore playing for Herndon whose home address is zoned for a different school. He was persuaded by the basketball coach to attend Herndon. |
FCPS has asserted that it only became aware of the incriminating text messages from Monty Fritts (the Hayfield AD) on November 19th, but that only underscores that its own investigation from August was superficial and flawed. The subsequent disarray and disruption is a direct result from the failure to have originally undertaken a thorough investigation when it was both warranted and needed. We really cannot have a school system overseen by someone as incompetent as Michelle Reid and the seven School Board members who thought it was more important to demonstrate their allegiance to Reid (and, indirectly, to the corrupt Hayfield program and administration) than to do the right thing. |
No one is lying. My kid's large FCPS HS got a new head football coach this year and no kids "followed him". "Better players" do not come with new coaches at public high schools, except apparently in shady places like PWC. |
That kid probably filed legit transfer paperwork, citing a program option at Herndon like a language that would let him transfer. HHS is definitely open for transfers with all those empty seats. Which is allowed in FCPS, as long as no one makes a youtube video advertising that he transferred to play for that coach. |
Hopefully Mr. Ricardo will have an instagram post update soon. He likes to focus on the positive in sports which is nice, but this scandal keeps growing and getting stranger by the day. |
I'm not sure this is the type of "recruiting" that violates the rules. The student was already slated to attend Herndon as he lived in the Herndon district. The coach seemed to be simply asking him to stay to and play there as opposed to attend the private school. In fact, it really isn't recruiting. The kid was going there anyway if he didn't decide to attend a private high school. |
