Kamala is 60 and Jill Biden is 73.

Okay. And Usha is still in her 30s. Do you see how a rich 39 year old is kind of expected to look hotter than two frumps in their 60s-70s?

Expected by you, that is. Not me.

Expected by nearly everyone. Have you never been on an Ivy League campus? All the undergrads have this effortless polished appearance. And the law gunners are all perfect. That is the ethos Usha was groomed in. What in the heck happened since then? She’s a young American aristocrat for lack of a better word. But she looks like a public school guidance counselor in Missouri who has given up.

Yes, I have a BA and MA from two different Ivy League schools, and my ds recently graduated from one as well. You sound as if you really, REALLY liked Gossip Girl. You do not sound as if YOU have ever "been on an Ivy League campus."

+100
The PP’s complete fantasy of what students look like at Ivy League schools is too funny.

And you can say what you want about Taylor Swift's fake ass relationship, cheesy music, whatever, but she's proof that you can look your age without veering into Trump wife territory.

1. Taylor’s probably older than most middle aged people think.

2. Being an attorney and mother of 3 ages you a lot more than being a rich, single, child-free woman. Part of Taylor’s job is looking glamorous. Usha is very new to having that expectation.

Not sure what this means. Taylor was born in 1989, Usha was born in 1986. Those are objective facts. One looks good, the other doesn’t.

True, those are facts - but one is a glamorous superstar and the other is a woman who has never sought the spotlight and only recently found herself in it. And she looks like the normal woman she is.

And therein lies the problem, PP. Nobody expects a late 30s woman in the spotlight, a political spouse who was a high powered attorney no less, to look normal. Once you make it to the level of political spouse, you need to look put together and if you're in your 30s and 40s, especially, you need to look like the type of person that others should strive to be. You want to be aspirational. Usha looks normal, but as a millennial woman in the spotlight, she needs to look better than normal. That is just the world's expectations. Especially nowadays.

I'm sorry, but this is so silly. Did Karen Pence look "aspirational"? How about Jill Biden? Your use of the word "need" tells me that you are a follower of trends and expect everyone else to be too. Usha Vance doesn't "need" to look anything other than professional and appropriate, which she does. Her age has absolutely nothing to do with it and certainly doesn't mean she somehow has more obligation to look "better than normal" than any other VP's wife.

I'm the PP who wrote what you're quoting a few days ago -- you missed the part where I said "a late 30s woman" - Karen Pence and Jill Biden were not.

But again - what does her age have to do with it? She looks fine for her position. She doesn’t have to look “aspirational.” That sounds like something a vapid influencer would say.

Oh! I didn't know this - she never lived in Ohio with him????

This is such a lie. Yes, they both lived in Ohio together while working remotely in 2019:

But Usha Vance’s Supreme Court clerkship ended last summer, and they bought a home in Cincinnati in June. Usha took six months off to stay home with Ewan and get settled in Cincinnati, Vance said in a telephone interview, then began work this month as an associate at the San Francisco-based law firm Munger, Tolles & Olson.

Both of the Vances are working remotely from home, Vance said.

Given their work situations, why live in Cincinnati? Vance, who confirmed that he has given up his German Village rental apartment, said he wanted to be close to Middletown, where he grew up and where his mother, sister and aunt still live. “We saw Mom—the baby and me, Usha was skiing—last week. It's pretty nice just to be able to drive up and have dinner and then come back home.”

She is a walking fashion mishap and nothing about her appearance is “refreshing.” If she was in my social sphere or even the pickup line at my kids’ school all of the other millennial and gen x mums would be gossiping and be concerned for her. It is not in any way normal for a 39 year old wealthy professional to let herself go in such a dramatic way.

You all must not have much going on if Usha’s looks rise to the level of gossip.

Anonymous wrote:Certainly no fan of either Vance but I think Usha looks completely fine. Shes professional and appropriately dressed. She doesn’t need to be a fashion icon. I think the gray hair throws people off and it’s a bit surprising that she doesn’t color it but has it occurred to anyone that she could be allergic to hair dye? Who knows why she chooses not to color.

Is she also allergic to every other hair product, makeup, and nice clothes? We have seen that her hair can look smooth and pretty, grey or no, so we know it’s possible and she just opts out.

+1 My friend and I are early 50s and have been coloring our gray for years. She said she considered stopping but thought that if you do stop, everything else (hair other than color, makeup, clothes, accessories) needs to be totally on point in order to not look disheveled/old/unprofessional which she wasn’t willing to do all the time. Easier to color your hair.

Serious question...why do you care? There is a group of posters in this thread who take every comment about her SO seriously that people can be forgiven for thinking said posters know Usha. I can't imagine caring that much what people say about the outfits of someone I've never met, even if I'm a fan. I'd say I'm a casual fan of Meghan Markle but I don't really care if someone doesn't like her outfit or makeup at one appearance, unless it verges into racism like "She looks ghetto" or in Usha's case the comments about her looking like she smells bad were anti-Indian racism. Then I can imagine caring.

But insisting over and over again that she looks impeccable 100% of the time and getting mad whenever someone says she doesn't is strange behavior, even for a fan.

Yes but this leaves out an important part - they moved to a very exclusive part of Cincinnati that is an hour away from Hamilton - which tells you how not normal middle class Usha is. She moved to the southern part of Cincinnati which is not unlike Kent.

And I am guessing Gwen Walz THOUGHT she looked good - her toes were exposed and she was wearing “linen” and a jacket.

None of you know anything about the Midwest and it shows!!

I also think it's weird the Usha poster keeps bringing up Gwen Walz as an example of "she looked bad too."

One, plenty of us said that linen sack and messy ponytail were not a great look. Honestly I am old school and think sandals for professional events are not ideal, unless they have a bit of a heel to them.

Two, I am only a couple years younger than Usha and I would be mortified if I looked bad and someone was like "Yeah but this 50something woman also looked bad too." Like, you should try to be a bit more stylish than someone old enough to be your mother.

My kid is at any Ivy and kids definitely don’t look effortlessly polished. And I went to Yale law and people definitely did not look great. I remember one of my college friends visiting and basically joking “good thing you guys have brains, cause there’s not a lot of lookers here.” One of my female classmates used to suck her hair all the time and it was a tangled mess. (She was a massive gunner and has a very successful career.). I’ve posted repeatedly that it’s sort of mystifying why Usha can’t dress better, but your post about Yale Law is just way way off the mark—the gunners pretty much look as bad as anyone. I can think of three women in my class who had any fashion sense and they were not gunners.

Agree with all this. Yale Law students are NOT inherently polished. That poster must be thinking of Gilmore Girls or some other shows that take place at Yale lol. Also the comment about your classmate sucking her hair to the point of it getting tangled made me gag lmfao.

I'd think touring the world and performing 150 three-hour shows in 51 cities, managing your band/dancers/PR/support staff, writing and releasing two new albums, and releasing and promoting a documentary would age you more than being an attorney--but okay.

Whatever you say.

Personally, I think being a mother of 3 children under the age of 10 ages you more than being a high powered attorney or an iconic performer.

I would think in Usha's case it's the high-stress career. Even JD has tacitly admitted they don't really do their own parenting.

You have to post the link to IG but at any rate I don't see it on her profile. Was it a story?

Say what you will about Ivanka, cause I've probably said worse, but I'm so jealous of her body.

Not the poster you are responding to but what does this even mean? Bless her heart for thinking someone looks bad? You take this way too seriously and it's odd.

Bolded made me laugh. Good for her for skiing after baby. That's tough. She must be naturally athletic which is why her body looks good after three kids and putting no discernible effort into her appearance.

But also I love that postpartum she just left JD to go skiing. I would too.
