Okay. And Usha is still in her 30s. Do you see how a rich 39 year old is kind of expected to look hotter than two frumps in their 60s-70s?

Expected by you, that is. Not me.

Expected by nearly everyone. Have you never been on an Ivy League campus? All the undergrads have this effortless polished appearance. And the law gunners are all perfect. That is the ethos Usha was groomed in. What in the heck happened since then? She’s a young American aristocrat for lack of a better word. But she looks like a public school guidance counselor in Missouri who has given up.

Not the PP. This is hysterical. It actually seems like you're writing fan fic about how students look on an Ivy League campus. I actually laughed. These students look just like students on any other campus - not "effortlessly polished." I think it's you who's never set foot on an Ivy League campus. Here, let's take a peek at Yale Law School:

And so, you would have felt exactly the same way about Gwen Walz, right?

Gwen Walz appears to TRY - she doesn’t have the natural beauty Usha has - that’s why we are hard on her - she has so much potential and dgaf

Are you joking? Gwen Walz was extremely casual on the public stage. I mean, at least be honest. Where’s the rabid “unkempt and sloppy” poster?

Gwen is a flyover state boomer, like 20 years older than Usha. She is a retired teacher with degree mill credentials. Married to a lifelong teacher and public servant.

Usha is the millennial child of millionaire Ivory Tower head honchos, raised in the most exclusive neighborhoods of San Diego, with Oxford and Ivy League degrees, and a high powered legal career. She is married to a multi-millionaire Ivy League lawyer, financier, and author, turned senator and vice president.

Usha and Gwen are not peers. Usha should be dressed as polished as princess Kate and Anisha Rosnah. She falls very short, to put it mildly. It’s embarrassing.

Lol that Rancho Peñasquitos is one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in San Diego.

I think she looks great here. That dress suits her slender frame.

What does that even mean? "The dress suits her slender frame"? Yes, it's almost like clothes look good on skinny people.

Anyone can be skinny these days thanks to ozempic. As another poster said, Usha lacks polish. Showing up to an event where you'll be photographed and videoed with no makeup is insane.

Um… you need to relax. I was responding to this: “Imagine being rich and allowing yourself to look like this at 40.”

She looks great in the dress. As for her makeup and hair, they’re fine. If she was all made up and her hair dyed, you’d complain about that too. She’s fine.

NP- yes part of me is cheering her on for just bucking the trends, but then there's part of me that's like, *I* can put on makeup in about 2 minutes flat, and I wash and brush my hair. And I'm a nobody. It's the least she can do.

I have those conflicted feelings too. I hate the plastic Trump aesthetic so I'm glad she's not following that. But...she just looks so bad. She has all the resources in the world and she looks like a 48 year old single mom of infant twins with PPD. GOING.THROUGH.IT. IDK, maybe she is, but from my perspective she's basically jetsetting and representing the US, this nobody would be able to put on some undereye concealer and lipstick to at least not look so haggard.

I sort of agree with this. Every picture of Usha, the first thing I think is “she looks exhausted”. And a little bit miserable even when she is smiling. It’s a valid choice to not wear makeup (we all agree she generally is not wearing any makeup right?) even if it’s an unusual one. But the result is she looks very worn down.

That’s totally separate from her features which I think are fine/moderately pretty. I usually think her hair is fine and her outfits are not great but not like embarrassing the country bad.

It’s mostly interesting she’s not toeing the line in this one way, but seemingly was fine going along with the rest of the party line and her husband selling his soul pretty completely.

Certainly no fan of either Vance but I think Usha looks completely fine. Shes professional and appropriately dressed. She doesn’t need to be a fashion icon. I think the gray hair throws people off and it’s a bit surprising that she doesn’t color it but has it occurred to anyone that she could be allergic to hair dye? Who knows why she chooses not to color.

Is she also allergic to every other hair product, makeup, and nice clothes? We have seen that her hair can look smooth and pretty, grey or no, so we know it’s possible and she just opts out.

My kid is at any Ivy and kids definitely don’t look effortlessly polished. And I went to Yale law and people definitely did not look great. I remember one of my college friends visiting and basically joking “good thing you guys have brains, cause there’s not a lot of lookers here.” One of my female classmates used to suck her hair all the time and it was a tangled mess. (She was a massive gunner and has a very successful career.). I’ve posted repeatedly that it’s sort of mystifying why Usha can’t dress better, but your post about Yale Law is just way way off the mark—the gunners pretty much look as bad as anyone. I can think of three women in my class who had any fashion sense and they were not gunners.

I think she’s wearing makeup. She’s wearing the kind of light tasteful makeup that educated lawyers wear but if you’re being photographed you need a heavier hand. I’d guess she’s wearing some under eye cover up and a light lipstick or lip gloss in most pictures and she also seems to be wearing light eyeliner and or light eye shadow in at least some.

DP. I went to Harvard and was not "effortlessly polished." I looked like a homeless Pre-Raphaelite waif, and that's the way I liked it.

Yes, I have a BA and MA from two different Ivy League schools, and my ds recently graduated from one as well. You sound as if you really, REALLY liked Gossip Girl. You do not sound as if YOU have ever "been on an Ivy League campus."

Anonymous wrote:Just saw an instagram comment about Usha which said "Allow me to put it in perspective: Usha is only three years older than Taylor Swift." That's actually crazy to realize. I knew she was young but I don't think I realized she was that young.

And you can say what you want about Taylor Swift's fake ass relationship, cheesy music, whatever, but she's proof that you can look your age without veering into Trump wife territory.

1. Taylor’s probably older than most middle aged people think.

2. Being an attorney and mother of 3 ages you a lot more than being a rich, single, child-free woman. Part of Taylor’s job is looking glamorous. Usha is very new to having that expectation.

Not sure what this means. Taylor was born in 1989, Usha was born in 1986. Those are objective facts. One looks good, the other doesn’t.

True, those are facts - but one is a glamorous superstar and the other is a woman who has never sought the spotlight and only recently found herself in it. And she looks like the normal woman she is.

And therein lies the problem, PP. Nobody expects a late 30s woman in the spotlight, a political spouse who was a high powered attorney no less, to look normal. Once you make it to the level of political spouse, you need to look put together and if you're in your 30s and 40s, especially, you need to look like the type of person that others should strive to be. You want to be aspirational. Usha looks normal, but as a millennial woman in the spotlight, she needs to look better than normal. That is just the world's expectations. Especially nowadays.

I'm sorry, but this is so silly. Did Karen Pence look "aspirational"? How about Jill Biden? Your use of the word "need" tells me that you are a follower of trends and expect everyone else to be too. Usha Vance doesn't "need" to look anything other than professional and appropriate, which she does. Her age has absolutely nothing to do with it and certainly doesn't mean she somehow has more obligation to look "better than normal" than any other VP's wife.

I'm the PP who wrote what you're quoting a few days ago -- you missed the part where I said "a late 30s woman" - Karen Pence and Jill Biden were not.

Anonymous wrote:She is only 39 and dresses like a depressed baby boomer wife who hates her husband. 39 is so young! She grew up with Facebook and instagram. All of her friends on social media are San Diego childhood and Ivy League college and law school friends. In other words, highly polished, stylish, affluent and sophisticated peers. It’s also worth noting she refused to move to the less sophisticated Ohio when he was running for senate. She stayed in California and then they moved to Virginia after he won.

Oh! I didn't know this - she never lived in Ohio with him????

Do a search, we made fun of Gwen for this wrinkled mess. Go start your own thread if you want to rehash this stuff. Been there, done that.

OMG. Tell me you've never been an Ivy League campus without telling me you've never been to an Ivy League campus. You'll find the same sloppy kids on any college campus, whether it's Harvard or University of Illinois.

+1
She wears her makeup lightly, which personally, is refreshing.
