OP here. Yeah, they kind of are. I thought my baby was beautiful as a newborn but in retrospect realize from pictures that she looked like an old man. My question is about slightly older babies though!

My second looked angry as a newborn, her face was so squished up. As older babies, both of my kids were gorgeous. The most beautiful babies I have ever seen.

Nope. She is cute overall, but she's had some pretty ugly or plain phases. I've definitely seen better-looking babies and kids, but I've also seen many uglier ones. (she was a chubby baby and I tend to prefer those.)

My oldest was actually a very beautiful newborn. He didn't have the wrinkly red skin like a lot of newborns have.

My second, was not so beautiful. He was red, an hairy...and I felt awful. I remember seeing him in the hospital and thinking "What have I done? I have one good looking child and one ugly one and the ugly one will always feel inferior!" Post Partum mommy guilt.
By age 2 months my second child got much better looking (to be honest, even cuter than the older one was at 2 months!)

But yeah...I knew he was an ugly newborn.

No. My baby is ugly right now. But she's truly got an adorable personality. Thank goodness, otherwise I'd have shoved her in a public mailbox.

Also, you can't count on cuteness. My first baby came out ADORABLE and then got ugly as she turned into a toddler!

I saw a Japanese baby today that was amazingly cute. I thought to myself, my baby was not nearly as cute as that child. No envy, just truth.
