Do You Think It Is Possible For An Animal (Pet) To Actually Feel Love??

Anonymous
...as in the way us humans feel love.

Do you think your pets love you as in actual love itself?

Like when your kitty looks at you, rubs herself against you and purrs...Is this an act of love?

Or when your pooch jumps on you when you walk in the door and licks you up + down...Is he doing this out of love??

Dogs - yes
Cats - no, they are just using that as a ploy to take over the world

Of course.

Of course it is. What a ridiculous question. It's no different than asking if other people can feel love the same way you can. Animals communicate their feelings and give signs, just like humans do. They can suffer and feel regret too. Anyone who has a dog who's gotten into the trash can attest to this.

Is it me or are there a lot of cat haters in this forum??!

Sorry guys, but I am a cat lover and while I do admit these feline creatures to tend to be....how do I phrase this....a little conniving and sneaky...just like my last boyfriend, I will put up with it because they are just so damn cute.

For instance, my current kitty hates it when I cuddle him. Very standoffish. So when he sees me coming into the room, he always puts his head down, closes his eyes and "pretends" to be sleeping. At first, I fell for this sleek ploy. But after a few times of actually catching him awake and licking himself prior to seeing me coming, I am now on to him!!

Also, cats are a little creepy at times. Like I will go to the kitchen real quick to get a sip of water and my kitty will be sitting on my bed. Then when I turn around from the fridge after taking my sip of water, my cat will be on the counter right behind me and scare the be-Jesus out of me. It's like..."How the hell did you get there so damn fast??"

And get this...Whenever I go to the mailbox to get my mail, I swear up and down, I never EVER lock my front door, after all the mail box is just a 30 second walk from my doorstep.
Yet the past couple of days when I have come back, the door has been locked when I returned and my cat has been at the window screen just staring at me....Hmmm....

I think the cat comment was a joke.

Of course cats can feel love.

Agree, it was a joke! FWIW all my cats have been very affectionate and I've had cats all my life.

My dog absolutely LOVES me. They can play favorites and they also know where their bread is buttered.

You're an idiot. I hope you don't have children or pets.

Yes, definitely a joke!

But they are so smart that I'm always wondering what they are *really* thinking. I don't know if I'd get one myself - might lock me out when I'm getting the mail.

My cat lives salmon, and chicken, but I tell myself he's stuck to my side on salmon night because he loves -me-

My pugs love, for sure. Especially each other.

You need a nanny cam or I guess a kittycam.

I don't think we are so far evolved from our furry friends that it makes sense that we have highly complex emotions and they have none.
