Dear Idiot Parents of DCUM,

At a certain age, yes, a kid’s life IS exclusively school and sports/activities (also known as friends and peers). They’re just not that into you. Being around you all day, every day, going on walks together, kicking a ball around, is TORTURE for them. They may be putting on a brave or happy face, but they are actually suffering.

Love,
A parent who remembers what childhood is like

No need for snark. And I do remember what childhood is like, and it's not what you described.

So I guess the teens who are hanging themselves in their closet are being melodramatic.

No, YOU are being melodramatic. Healthy kids aren't killing themselves over distance learning in a pandemic. If your kid has that severe preexisting mental health issues, you don't need school buildings -- you need to parent and you need mental health professional help STAT.

Mental health in kids was at record lows before covid. And it's not just mental health, there are other issues like being locked in the house with a now unemployed man who drinks all day and beats the crap out of you.

Anonymous wrote:Where are all these fat kids? None of my children or their friends have gained weight and certainly nobody on my kid's travel team, either. But, they still play outside and attend practices twice a week with clinics 4 days a week. Pandemic or not, nothing has stopped you and your children from going outside to play and be active except for... you the parent. Mine are DL and will remain DL. That's not an excuse to allow your child to get fat. It's just lazy parenting.

Okay, princess. Here’s your parenting Gold Star. Now kindly STFU.

You should do the same and go tend to your fat a** kids.

Ouch! So insulting! I guess we have to take back that gold star. You’re an imperfect parent, shame!

Your kid didn't get fat missing one Recess/day and PE once a week.

What about the daily 2,000 steps to school and back then hanging out with his dude bro friends after school on their scooters or whatever kids do these days?

Who stopped you from making sure your kid got 2,000 (or, hopefully, a lot more) steps a day? Oh, right, nobody. School building are completely unnecessary for that and walking is free.

Sooooo maaaaany excuuuuuuses.

Hey lady, I bet my kid is fitter than your's. 90th percentile for height and 60th for BMI. Why don't you stay on topic instead of throwing out ad hominems that aren't even landing any punches? Oh, that's right! Because you're full of crap and you only care about yourself and you don't actually have any arguments to refute my arguments.

My son is in public. He has not gained anything at his waist but has grown 3 inches over a year. Nothing to do with public or private schools, just active habits.

Many kids had no social contact for an entire year. Many kids who previously excelled in school received failing grades in distance learning. Some kids have been trapped inside the home with an abusive parent. Some have been left alone during the day for a year. Many are not receiving hot meals. Kids have suffered this year. Stop trivializing it.

My kid has gained probably 30lbs. And grown at least 4 inches. Holy growth spurts, he needs all new clothes every few months! And he’s only 12!
