Shall we review the list of books conservatives burned or canceled for years?
To Kill a Mockingbird, Catcher in the Rye, Ulysses, 1984, Lord of the Flies, etc etc? |
So if the Dems call the Green New Deal "The Lorax Act" they will get full, bi-partisan support, right? |
I Saw it on Mulberry Street is only available for 3rd party sellers for $500 now. |
Many Seuss books were not written by Ted, (e.g., Yertle the Turtle). |
That’s what bothers me. Why didn’t they warn people about discontinuing them and phase them out over time? |
When I had kids, I went back and reread some of the books and movies and shows I remembered as childhood favorites. Several were truly offensive, and I didn't remember the bad parts at all, or maybe as I child I didn't realize what was being portrayed. I did not give those books to my kids, nor did I introduce them to those shows or movies. There is so much great literature for young kids today, they don't need the old, outdated ones that have terrible messages, explicit or implicit. I have saved them for when they are in older, as I do think old texts and shows are appropriate as an area of anthropology. It is important to know what the past was like and how we have evolved. |
Why should they? |
Why should they? These were the lowest sellers in their inventory and the GOP just made them collectors items. |
+1 This is true of everything from Babar the elephant to so many movies I loved as a kid. |
There is a disconnect between the people who are making these changes thinking it's NBD and the audiences who are not on board with them. It really is a type of elitism that doesn't sit well with a lot of people who are always ridiculed rather than listened to. |
That’s interesting because I can purchase all of those books on Amazon. |
I think the change was made sudden in order to draw attention to their political posturing. |
Right. Whatever shall we do without I Saw it on Mulberry Street? |
SP. I mean, people can't afford to eat right now. But god forbid someone is not able to buy a Dr. Suess book! That's the real tragedy that the elites are foisting on us! |
.Thanks for illustrating my point about social disconnects so well. Whatever shall we do without such cynicism to guide us in all our endeavors? |
