Help me understand the impact of a $15 minimum wage?

Already getting the feeling like nothing matters because democrats can’t just grow up and use the power they have. Screw Manchin at every turn from here on out until he caves on the filibuster.

This! We're always so scared to wield power. The Republicans will see to it that nothing of significance to the general population happens, they'll retake power, and continue looting all the money for themselves and their donors until there's nothing left.

As for small store owners not being able to pay their employees- those employees are already clamoring to work at Costco, Walmart and Target. It’s been happening for decades now.

The GOP's goal is the opposite of fiscal responsibility. Their goal has been to absolve employers of any public responsibility with regard to wages, benefits, working conditions, environmental damage, employment of undocumented workers, and so on. They have eagerly expanded federal benefits to low-income workers as an alternative to increasing the minimum wage.

Reagan opposed increasing the minimum wage throughout his Presidency but proposed and signed an expansion of the Earned Income Tax Credit.

Paul Ryan was willing to work with Obama to expand the EITC but not to increase the minimum wage.

All. Of. This.

They stripped our economy for parts! The current federal minimum wage is inhumane. If you have to pay your employers that little to stay in business, you shouldn’t be in business.

I would support 25/hr minimum wage.

It’s time to bring back the American middle class.

Joe Manchin (Senator from West Virginia) is deeply against it. His vote is critical in the Senate. $15 minimum wage requirements would be devastating to his state’s already struggling small businesses. Imagine being a small business owner, barely making ends meet, and your labor costs doubled. Businesses in high cost of living states can absorb more easily, but many service industries are against this proposed legislation. You may raise wage for one worker, but layoff two

Labor costs will more than double. Our employees who make 15 now will suddenly be minimum wage earners but they have worked their way up ton15. We will need to raise the wages of 15/hr workers so that they are compensated fairly above the no experience 15/hr earners.

Minimim wages should be increased incrementally every year . Not suddenly.

Then you must support the Democrats’ minimum wage proposal, because that’s exactly what it does - phase in the increase over the span of several years. Not all at once.

If somehow illegal immigrants get more rights/accesses, but we just can't raise the minimum wage or expand Obamacare because "so much monies", the Dems deserve to get the shellacking they will receive in 2022 and 2024.

Exactly. Democrats play checkers while Republicans play chess.

Republicans play to win by any means necessary.

yes, democrats realize that government is not a competition. It is people coming together to try to make civilization instead of anarchy.

Republicans just see the whole world as a pissing contest. Why is winning so important to them? do they not have lives? children? families? communities?

Seems as if Democrats don't care that raising the min. wage to $15 would put 1.4 million people out of work. You call this "coming together?"

I personally think that any move toward raising the min. wage must be tied to using eVerify and there must be a carve out for small businesses.
Tom Cotton's plan is a good one.

I would love to see eVerify strongly enforced. So here we can indeed come together

Jobs that pay poverty wages aren’t good jobs. We can create better jobs if we cut those out and families could actually support themselves on 2 jobs instead of 4, or cash under the table. More jobs does not necessarily mean better.
