Sob. This reminds me if the pumpkin soup I ate all over Europe in September and October 2018.

I’ll raise you Japanese desserts. If you’ve ever marveled over the bottom floor food hall of a Japanese department store, then you know what I mean. The best croissants I’ve had have all been from Japan, and not France.

Indeed. Japanese take everything to the extreme in terms of perfection. Strawberry shortcake from Japan is unbeatable.

I’m the PP and salivating at the thought of Japanese strawberry shortcake. They really are masters at taking a simple concept and utterly perfecting it.

What are your top 5 meatless meals for lets say your high school football playing son...meaning...he eats a lot? Thanks.

Legumes and grains and veggies. x 5

Chana masala
Red lentil stew
Dal tarka
Veggie/bean chili
Hummus and veggie wraps.
Black bean sweet potato tacos (ridiculously delicious with avocado crema)
Spaghetti with "meat" (cauliflower/walnuts/mushrooms) sauce
Chickpea salad sandwiches
Udon noodles with veggies and tofu
Tofu scramble with avocado/tomato
Plant based meatloaf

I could go on...

A whole food plant based diet can be challenging at first, but really, it's not that hard. And it doesn't have to be filled with garbage.

The entire plant based diet is garbage.

+1

I like sweet potatoes and I like black beans, but the PP’s “Ridiculously good” comment about her tacos is so silly. A ridiculously good taco would be one with crispy pork carnitas or juicy, smoky carne asada.

Sometimes I think being plant-based is just another way to display your “virtue”. These people will insist their sad plate of kale and seeds is just “insanely delicious.” I think a lot of them are trying to convince themselves they don’t really want a luscious piece of meat instead.

I’m a vegetarian who really finds all meat—yes including pork carnitas and smoky carne asada absolutely disgusting. The smell, sight, or taste of any meat makes me feel physically ill. You won’t find me eating a plate of kale and seeds either though. That sounds gross too. But don’t deluded yourself thinking all vegetarians secretly wish they could be eating meat bc it’s just not true.

So many hate Thanksgiving and turkey. For theove of god, brine your turkey people. Follow the NYT's brining recipe to a T. I am absolutely salavating at the throught of a nice, very tasteful and not dry turkey using that brine recipe and topped with gravy. Soooooooooo good.

Tried it. Still would rather have any other type of meat.

Yes thank you. I get so sick of the people who constantly claim if you don't like Thanksgiving food its only because it wasn't cooked correctly. Sorry but I have had it made by incredible chefs and its still not a great meal. Trust me no one is drooling over your dry brine or wet brine or whichever other method you are convinced makes it yummy. Its blah. Edible but not worth the effort and made because you are supposed to have on Thanksgiving. This is why no one ever wants it any other day than Thanksgiving.

Have you tried it fried? I hate thanksgiving food (I am not even from this country) and last year I finally went ahead and bought a huge indoor electric fryer just to make the turkey. For the first time it was actually good and it was gone within 24hrs...

And prior to that I had tried the fancy turkeys from WS, the NYT brine, the WS dry brine, etc etc etc.

Personally, I like the dishes that I make but you are absolutely right that there is nothing special about them. I routinely make Ina Garten's Brussel sprouts, or sautéed green beans with sliced almonds. And my mashed potato is amazing, but what is special about mashed potatoes?

I draw the line at making casseroles though... or anything with marshmallows for a meal.

The only thing I like about TK is the actual process of cooking, spending time with my family, drinking and stressing over. The actual meal, there is nothing remarkable about it - at all.

Don’t know if that’s controversial?

Omg yes. So so gross. Tastes like actual dirt.

Every year I eat a little less turkey at thanksgiving.

Controversial confession:

I won't serve asparagus to guests because I don't want their stinky pp smell in my bathrooms.

It's a shame since it's the easiest and prettiest vegetable to serve.

I can smell a beer drinking, sardine sucking, curry eater from a mile away.

Food shouldn't make humans smell from the inside out 🤮

There's always the option of a nice bowl of fruit. The guests can eat a piece on the back stoop.

I think is more tragic than controversial. You are missing out on so much.

I am central European desserts pp. I've never been to Japan. What kind of desserts are we talking about?
