I'm passing it along to friends. The rules are really created with membership only pools in mind. Very focused on the business side of pools (indoor/fitness clubs). I wonder which "$takeholder$" were included. |
Ok, that’s completely illogical. A stranger can be right next to a kid in a pool in an indoor goldfish swim school, but a parent can’t be next to a child in an outdoor (less germy) pool? |
m Were you just full of rage after this webinar or what? I’m getting secondhand pissed off just hearing about this attitude. |
Yes. That is correct (unless the parent at the outdoor pool is participating in an instructor led course). |
Oh gross. Seriously there is no lake in Fairfax that isn’t full of sewer runoff. Isn’t this how people get those brain parasites? |
So somehow the virus knows that there’s a commercial transaction involved so it magically stays away? Lol! |
Maybe not rage, but very frustrated. I still am as I am working with a few members of our pool board trying to work out a plan for Phase 2. We have been very successful with Phase 1, but it was easier to navigate. I saw someone else who attended the webinar chimed in earlier. They are going to post the link to the webinar. When one of us gets it we can post it here. |
I'm pretty sure these rules were written to benefit county rec centers. If you have recommendations or issues to be addressed during Phase II, please email Olivia McCormick at VDH, olivia.mccormick@vdh.virginia.gov |
Oh man. A 16 year old. I just read about it.
|
| I’m going to email about kids swimming in dirty water because our pools aren’t open. Hopefully the Virginia department of health cares about that. |
Yes. Goldfish and Kids First etc. are businesses and they are pushing hard to be able to operate. Pool clubs are local nonprofits, basically. I know a bunch of them wrote a letter to the governor but without the right connections, it apparently went right to the circular file. |
Yes. 27 clubs at the time. Letter may have gone a bit late in the process. The group is over 40 now. |
This is seriously nuts. I thought the phase 2 guidelines said that distancing still has to be in place even during swim instruction. If not, are only private lessons allowed then? Most swim lessons are group lessons which means kids would be near an instructor AND other kids in the class. At Goldfish there are 3 or 4 kids per class that usually wait next to each other when it’s not their turn. Maybe they would have 2 kids per class, each waiting at opposite ends of the pool? It seems like this would only work for kids who are close to swimming independently anyway, who are old enough to follow directions to stay put until their turn. A younger kid (e.g. 3 year old) might try to jump in out of turn, requiring close contact between the kid and one of the lifeguards who is usually close by. This makes no sense! |

True. Forgot about 3 per lane. I guess we will accept this and deal. But this all makes no sense. |
