This. I don't care about the politics of anyone but the shooter, since those politics apparently had something to do with his crime. If these sentiments are actually coming from this website's intended demographic (DC area parents), I weep for this community.

Who is defending what this shooter did? Seriously, find the post where anyone is "excusing" what this young man did?

People are saying that the parents of the boy should not be automatically assigned guilt by association. None of us have a clue what those people did or did not do.

DP. The shooter hasn't been officially identified but you can find his name, if you know how to Google. Seems to have come from a large white-collar Italian family. Republicans, of course.

NP, it's not uncalled for. Republican politicians these days, including our president, very clearly express sympathy and (at least) soft support for neo-nazis, white supremacists, and others who have disdain for minorities. It's part of the GOP base these days, and they know it - they know they need their votes.

So while YOU as an individual may be raising your family to have kindness and respect for all, you also belong to a circle of the venn diagram of people who back these vile scum. So do I, in a different way, as someone of Italian descent (their name does appear to be Italian). But I didn't choose to be Italian - people choose to be Republican, and support bigoted Republican politicians (or politicians with a hell of a lot of sympathy for such hatred)

The funeral home lists Buckley’s obituary below Scott’s. And it asks for donations to be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Leave it alone. Concern yourself with how this kid got a gun and hot to prevent tragedies. I already posted before to say Scott is getting totally overshadowed by his wife in the media. He should get recognized for the amazing person he was too. He ended up dead due to his stepdaughter dating the wrong guy. Her own father is still living. Leave his family alone. I knew them way back when and they are truly wonderful people as was he. He is more than just "husband of Buckley the saint."

Oh I completely agree. They are white, well educated and attractive and it is unfair, but those 3 things make this a bigger news story. Very sad, but I hope something comes out of this that benefits many-charities in their name, valuable info about mental health issues, stricter gun control or charges for those who don't keep their guns secure,.something, anything.

I've been checking the news every day for updates, but I can understand why they're not coming. pp, i think you're correct. I will note that the NBC story/video that a link was posted to earlier in this thread had the reporter say the name of the community that his family lived in and then showed the reporter knocking on the door to the house with the street number in plain view on the video. It's not a big community, and so it's pretty easy to confirm the names of the parents and see that the speculation as to his name on other websites is correct. I also suspect that the police don't think he is going to make it, or at the very least will no longer have the mental capacity to be tried as a result of his presumably self inflicted wounds. It's a really sad situation.

The street number is the only one in Lorton with those combination of numbers, and it took about one minute to identify the owners. The father of the killer has an appraisal company and sells a little real estate too. The son was easily identified along with other relatives.

From the names, it look like he had one child from a previous marriage or relationship, she had one child from a previous marriage relationship, and they had two children together. Right?
