I agree. While I didn't see the video, someone told me that he watched the whole video (not just the clip media is showing) and the bikini girl was fighting back with the officer, was kicking and resisting quite a bit. A second kid approached the officer who was trying to detain bikini girl with his hands up AS IF he was about to attack (or push?? ) the officer I think that's when you start to see the upheaval that all the media keeps posting - that officer pulling gun on the second kid (which I think is wrong) and then that kid goes running.

While the video is bad, I think we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that there's a sense of resisting arrest, fighting back and overall disregard for officers - it's getting pretty ugly (on both the police side and the civilian side) out there.

You need to see the video before you post an opinion. Girl was not fighting back. Now she did somewhat pull away from the officer once he grabbed her, but she did that because he GRABBED at her. His way pf restraining her was not done is such a way that she could react any other way. A teenage girl in a bikini is not going to let any grown man police or not, grab at her they way that he did. She was not kicking. She was trying to get away.

I still can not believe how many of you are defending this policeman. It is so sad that you view AA children as animals that have to be lassoed in. If this was a teenage girl was of any other race, you would view this video in a different light. Just admit it. If it was a little small teenage Asian girl, white girl or even Latino/Hispanic girl, you you would not be so quick to blame her for mouthing off. She was pulled to the ground and a knee was placed on her back! She was calling for her mother! what do you expect for a teenager. I know many you like to believe that all black people have had confrontations with the police, but we have not. She was probably scared. My 12 year would run for her life if this happened to her (now she wouldn't because I've had to have "the talk"). She has never had any contact with a policeman, never seen the inside of a courtroom.

It's just so sad that you all see us as all animals. These are teenagers who make bad decisions, the grown-ups are supposed to know better, be better, act better. It is so disappointing. It is really making me re-think my view of white Americans. Starting to see yo all as one big racist group. It really makes me sad.

I see, you are proposing a new constitutional amendment.

28th amendment: No person of the female gender, between the ages of 8 and 18, and wearing a bikini, shall ever be arrested, or touched. Authorities will ensure that every police car, motorbike, bike, boat and horse carries an assortment of well-fitting clothes, in multiple colors, styles and sizes, for any said person of the female gender wearing a bikini to select and dress up, before being arrested or touched.

I know you think this response is really clever and witty, but it's not. These are issues that AA parents have to face every single day. This little, useless comment (and it was indeed little and useless) really shows that for other races, it's not concerning. It's just something you can laugh about and attempt clever comments. I, on the other hand have to deal with my 12 year old AA daughter who told me today that she may be uninvited to a swim party of a "supposed" white friend because white friend thought she (my daughter) would cause the police to show up to her community pool because she's (white friend) never seen AA's at her community pool.

Lady, you are truly demanding. But, OK, here it goes:

28th amendment: No person of the female gender and of color, between the ages of 8 and 18, wearing a bikini and shouting for her mama to help, shall ever be arrested, or touched. Authorities will ensure that every police car, motorbike, bike, boat and horse carries 1. an assortment of well-fitting clothes, in multiple colors, styles and sizes, and 2. videoconference equipment, with every mama in the country in speed dial, for any said person of the female gender and of color wearing a bikini and shouting for her mama to help to select and dress up, and discuss matters with her mama, before being arrested or touched.

(My DAUGHTERS are not white. And they have no problem dealing with the police, or with "supposed" friends. They know their behavior matters. They don't trespass other people's properties, jump over fences, engage in physical altercations with neighbors, or ignore police requests. If some other "supposed" friends cancel an invitation, they play with someone else.

We are not drama people)

You know I am demanding. I demand that my public servants treat all people with respect. I don't joke about it. Your continued lack of cleverness and comments along these lines is just sad. Whatever race you are, I glad the bubble you live in keeps your sweet daughters safe and so easily able to play with others when confronted with prejudice. It must be so nice for you and your sweet non-white daughters.

Then teach your sorry ass kids to behave respectfully-do not cuss at the police, do as you are told, do not jump over fences to gain access to a private pool, do not violate HOA rules and invite 130 kids to a pool when you have no right to do so, and after you break all the rules and regulations----PLEASE DO NOT pull your sorry ass RACE CARD!!!!

The race card must be pulled. If that were a white girl no way that cop would have attacked her like that. Whites have had a longgggg history of abusing, raping, and murdering black people and every other race across the planet. So hell yes the race card will be pulled. Whites have such a bad history with blacks, we have very little way of determining if this was race based or not. But based on white people's history with blacks, I'm inclined to believe that yes it was race based.

Especially since we have a WHITE WOMAN who started this whole debacle and called those kids the n word and told them to go back to their section 8 neighborhood. It's plenty of racist white people around. Whites are just pissed their racism is on display worldwide for everyone to see. And yes I know not all whites are racist, but I believe a large portion still are.

1) You sound just as bad as that other idiot post things about black people

2) I bet you are that other idiot

The only idiot is you. Pick up a book and learn something about race history.

1) There is no such thing as "race history"

2) There is a history of racial relations

3) I still think you are that same joker who is posting all the "race card" venom and is using some truly poorly executed idea of black diction, as if the only black people you have ever encountered or spoken with existed in some 1970's tv show where they all talk "jive"

4) yep, I see you

Sounds like someone who gets all of their education from FAUX news. Again pick up a book so you don't sound like such an uneducated fool.

1) Don't watch Fox

2) I'm a black person who does not believe you are one, and if you are, you are a crazy one

(Different PP here) Please don't pile on him. If he watches Fox, if he can't pick up a book, perhaps it is because the Roman Empire and the Vikings invaded his ancestors' lands.

If anything, we need to have an honest national conversation about race, history and violent invasions.

I am a she, not a he and the poster to whom I responded did not in any indicate that she/he was interested in an educated, rational, multifacted discussion about race in this country. He/she just started hollering about white folks. She/he sounded very much like that other fool screaming about black folk.
Saying "whites have a bad history with blacks" is not quite the same thing as saying that this country has a long history of racial inequality that is manifested in institutional racism that benefits the majority culture and leaves many people of color left out, left behind and left wanting. Screaming that you are going to pull the race card is just silly. There is no such thing as a "race card". There is is race-ism, which is a very real thing, not a card to be pulled out when convienent. What do you think black mothers push out a race card instead of placenta during labor? Please.

Because no one here can have a rational discussion and work toward a resolution. There is too much anger and resentment in this thread.

How is DCUM supposed to work toward a resolution about something that happened in Texas?
Please to explain. The "rational discussion" point, I get. The resolution not so much.

Yes she did get her ass beat. I mean what else is getting your hair snatched violently, and slammed on the ground then? I'm guessing you're the type that justifies violence against people. Would probably tell a woman in a domestic violence situation that she's over reacting.

This breaks my heart for your daughter. I'm white - and if I was the white friends mother, I would want to know. I would cancel my child's party before she uninvited a friend for this reason. And what type of community pool in this area hasn't seen AA or black people?

Good question.

Langley Swim and Tennis community pool. I asked my daughter again, what exactly was said to her. She said "Becky" said to her "Larla, I'm not sure you should come to my party on Wednesday because I wouldn't want happened in Texas to happen to my party. My daughter says "What happened in Texas?" Friend says "You haven't seen the video on the news, it all over the internet?" My daughter then has to remind Becky that she doesn't get to watch TV during the week and has limited access to internet. Becky says " Some Black kids went to a swim party at a community pool and someone called the police because they weren't supposed to be there. I've never seen any other black kids at our community pool, so I'm unsure if you should come. I"ll ask my mom and call you tonight." My daughter then says "OOOKAYYYY, uh maybe I shouldn't come, I'll have to ask my mom too."

I think my daughter left out some things from the conversation but she was still seriously concerned that she shouldn't go to the party. I then showed her the video of what happened. And Becky has not called as of yet to say whether or not she still is invited. If Becky has not called by 7pm, I am calling Becky's mom for clarification.

You know what, you're right. I apologize as you have indicated that your intent was good. Reading so many of these ridiculous racist posts does make me pissy. I don't know if she was hospitalized, but if she was arrested, based on the video, police procedures would require medical attention before detention. If she was not detained, Asa parent, I would have sought medical attention, if for nothing else, peace of mind. Based on her screams, I would argue that there is emotional trauma. And good luck, getting these kids to cooperate in any police interactions or investigations in the future. They can't trust them.

And yes, I do agree that anybody who thinks that 14 year olds are adults and not children, also makes excuses for pedophiles. I mean you can't say a kid is an adult for some things and not others. The age number doesn't change.
