Look at the Arndt family(same cult as Duggars), grown sons (one nearing 40), not allowed to move out or date because their parents haven't approved a courtship yet. I can imagine a man in his 30s that has never even been alone with a woman has a pretty mentally unhealthy thought process.

Lots of us grew up in very difficult situations. Either very religious & isolated, with trauma, abuse, or other hardship. There is NO excuse for this kind of behavior. It may help explain it somewhat, but it does not lessen the severity.

I grew up in a religious group, with abusive parents. I have never molested anyone, or come close to such reprehensible behavior.

Confessing and doing some physical labor is not a real consequence. Since he was a minor at the time, I don't know if he would have gotten jail time, but at least court-supervised community service. He hasn't faced justice, hasn't received counseling, and has continued unfettered access to young children. It's just wrong on so many levels.

But unfortunately, this is so common, and not at all due to their cult membership. My brother's best friend molested his sister, took a plea deal, and got a thousand hours community service - no jail time, and it was expunged from his record within three years. He's now married with two daughters, and enjoys a close relationship with his half-brother who's 20 years younger. He has his side of the story, he's charismatic, and people sympathize with him. It's disgusting, but even he went through the justice system and didn't get that much harsher of a punishment than Josh seems to have gotten from his family.

Wait, so what happened when this was investigated back in 2006? If he confessed, why were no criminal charges brought? And why is it coming out now?

Me either. Makes me wonder if Jim Bob knew what the police officer was involved with and thought he would be sympathetic which it turns out he was and swept the case under the rug. They likely all didn't realize the police report would not be sealed and probably relied on it being a juvenile offense. Jim Bob had complete control over the girls and so no worries they would ever say anything to the media.

There was reference on another blog to a court case, State of Arkansas Child Protection vs. Josh Duggar. That case was sealed but someone saw just the case caption filed in the wrong place.

Because daddy Duggar to the son to a state trooper to hear his report. That state trooper was a family friend and is now serving time for child pornography. Seems like trooper turned a blind eye.

I just don't see how they can keep airing the shows, with everyone watching speculating which daughter was molested, and talking about family values and yadda yadda. It would be revictimizing the girls all over again.
