Summer swim brings out the crazy

Parents complaining about tech suits and knesskins. Just relax and let the swimmer do their thing within the rules. Don't stress about whether records were broken in the days of mustaches, paper suits, or tech suits. It will be ok. Kids shattering records in NVSL aren't doing so because of a suit--they are doing it because of training, nutrition, a good night's sleep, good mental headspace, and a good dose of talent.

If you see a kid in a kneeskin just cheer them on. No need for judgment about why you think they are wearing it or what their parents must be thinking, or whether it is fair or not based on speed or income. Just relax and cheer the kids on.

This thread is about the craziness of some swim parents during the summer. Having your kid "suited up" outside of the relay carnival meets falls in that catagory.

A parent worried or complaining about a kid wearing a kneeskin outside of some set period that fits their own personal criteria is what is crazy.

I'll go one farther. Any parent talking about a swimsuit of a 12 year old kid who isn't their kid is out of line.

Nice try, tech suit mom. Ban all kneeskins without a modesty waiver.

You are an adult criticizing somebody else's kids swim suit choice that in no way impacts you. Are you sure that's the side you want to settle on while claiming you aren't a crazy swim parent?

Tech suits and knee skins don’t give the advantage you think they do.

And that's why they are totally unnecessary and shouldn't be allowed in summer swim. It's a psych out rich kids try to play.

Then you get a modesty waiver from the referee. Just make sure your coach and team rep can vouch that she always wears the knee skin every practice.

Someone has a complex here. Kneeskins are about the same cost as a practice suit. This isn't a rich kid psych out, it's swimming.

Kneeskins are about $150 full price, can be found for about $100 on a good sale. Practice suits can be bought for $25 on sale any day of the week. Price isn’t comparable, don’t be silly.

For the people that say that 12&U tech suits don’t make a difference: Have you worn one? You can feel the increased water repellence and compression.

Parents asking who the "competition" is for their swimmers. I have heard them ask who are the top five swimmers in age group X.

Why is this so weird? Seems typical for any sport with cutoffs.

You’re making a bigger deal of it than it’s worth. Swimming is a “rich” kids sport anyways. You have to have enough money to join a pool, then join a team. A kneeskin isn’t going to make a difference between the haves and have nots. I can find one online for $50. Our team suit is $55.

My guess is that in swimming, it’s very concrete as to who is the best/fastest on the team, unlike field sports. Stop trying to find excuses as to why others are faster than your kids. It’s giving your children a complex and your anxiety about it will rub off on them.

Your guess sucks. Some teams have clear totem poles and some have many kids bunched within .5 sec of each other.

My child is the fastest in their age group on our team in every event but breaststroke, but not by a lot. I would be mortified if someone beat my child’s time by a tenth of a second and then my child resorted to wearing a kneeskin in order to pass the other swimmer that earned the top spot in a training suit.

Can you please link that $50 kneeskin? I have never seen one that inexpensive.

Team suits are expensive for what they are! You pay full price plus a premium. Anybody can find a training suit for $25 any day.

Amazon has kneeskins for $29. They're not 12U tech or anything else like that, but they're cute and colorful and won't give tech vibes for anyone who's looking to avoid that. Good modesty option, too.

I find my daughter’s kneeskins on EBay and PoshMark. Here’s one:
https://ebay.us/m/ZLkq40

I have never bought anywhere else. She wears them during club season and at divisionals/all stars. We have two so we have a backup if one rips. I got both for $103 total on EBay.
