Your impedes my freedom, and my children’s freedom to grow up without anxiety about being shot to death in their classroom. Of the two, their quality of life is MUCH more important than your stupid target practice or squirrel hunt!!!!! |
How thoughtful--his concern is not that his teenager is threatening to shoot his classmates. It's that if he shoots his classmates, dad's guns will be taken away. Just proof that any idiot can own a gun in America. And many idiots do.

| When the suspect's family was evicted from their Jackson County home in 2022, sheriff’s deputies removed several weapons, including a black AR-15 rifle with a scope — the type of weapon used in Wednesday's school shooting — as well as boxes of ammunition, records showed. All of the weapons, which also included handguns and bows, were marked as "released to owner." |

Shootings are the result of multiple failures within society, government, business, capitalism, and human nature.
There are always going to be stupid people who sell stupid products (weapons, drugs, alcohol) to people that shouldn't be able to buy them. It's easier to buy things now more than ever before. The right to bear arms needs to be amended already. You can't get around human nature since humans had to kill to have food to survive. There are going to be stupid, violent people who make stupid, violent decisions. There needs to be a review board of corporations and what they produce. If the products do more harm than good, the corporations should not be allowed to operate and produce things that are bad for society and the environment. Some things (like guns and ammunition, cigarettes/vaping, and chemicals like RoundUp) should not be mass produced. Violence in the media and on computer games is glorified and is so prevalent that kids think it's normal and become desensitized. |
You make a strong case to raising the age of gun ownership to 21. |
They're made up in someone's racist delusional head. Here's some actual data. https://www.statista.com/statistics/476456/mass-shootings-in-the-us-by-shooter-s-race/ Between 1982 and June 2024, 81 out of the 150 mass shootings in the United States were carried out by White shooters. By comparison, the perpetrator was African American in 26 mass shootings, and Latino in 12. When calculated as percentages, this amounts to 54 percent, 17 percent, and eight percent respectively. Race of mass shooters reflects the U.S. population Broadly speaking, the racial distribution of mass shootings mirrors the racial distribution of the U.S. population as a whole. While a superficial comparison of the statistics seems to suggest African American shooters are over-represented and Latino shooters underrepresented, the fact that the shooter’s race is unclear in around nine percent of cases, along with the different time frames over which these statistics are calculated, means no such conclusions should be drawn. Conversely, looking at the mass shootings in the United States by gender clearly demonstrates that the majority of mass shootings are carried out by men. |
Freedom from anxiety is not a thing. Self defense on the other hand is a self evident natural right. |
Are you a bot? You keep babbling about "natural rights" when the rights that Americans have are enshrined in the constitution, and can be amended when society changes. |
The shooter in this case seems to be from a poor family too, with a history of at least one eviction. I don’t see anyone making excuses for him because he’s poor though. You think white people should be held to a higher moral standard? |
The constitution recognizes that we have natural rights that predate any government. The constitution does not grant us rights. The constitution establishes a government, and in doing so, explicitly imposes restrictions on the government to prevent it from curtailing these rights that we already had and that we still have even after creating this government. Rights are not subject to the whims of the mob. The entire foundation of this country is based on this philosophical framework. It is utterly unique in world history and there is no plan B. That is why 2A rights (and 1A, and 3A, and…) are so passionately defended. |
In years past, the right to own slaves was also passionately defended. Times change. |
I get it all, but shouldn't you also ask a question "why". What motivates people who do mass shootings and distinguishes them from other type of criminals or violent offenders who are committing crimes every single day. And why is it' that it's schools and school kids involved in this? I think you are focusing on treating the symptoms and not the disease. If we were really at mercy of crazy people who had easy access to guns we would have shootings every day in every city USA in public places. All the time. There are people committing violence every day in big cities, yet they don't engage in mass murder and it's not their goal. Those who do mass shootings prepare and per-meditated. If you aren't paying attention to these nuances then you are trying to use a hatchet where tweezers are needed to do the job. |
Someone fought a civil war over that one. Can't remember who, though. |
The mom also has numerous arrests across various GA counties as well as drug/alcohol use. Why wasn’t child protective services called when the FBI and local police had already come to the home? Why were the children left in the home when they strongly suspected the kid posted those messages? Sounds like teachers, family and neighbors knew it was a very rough situation but no one helped him. Just telling the schools to watch him clearly wasn’t enough. This is indicative of not just that community, but how we as a nation treat families and esp children in need. We reap what we sow. |
They had recently been evicted. Poor unstable families bounce from place to place so the schools have a hard time tracking him. He was new to this school, his teachers probably didn’t know about his issues if that info wasn’t offered. Child protective services are spread thin so if the dad seemed stable and safe enough they probably couldn’t do much more. |
