Here is how to transfer to any high school in the area

The Fairfax Times article added more details about the meeting.

WTOP did also. What is the point of residency checks if the standard routine is to give them a heads up that they are coming over? LOL.

Reid then abruptly closed the one-hour meeting in just 27 minutes and 40 seconds, announcing that she wouldn’t be taking any more questions publicly and instructing attendees to line up in an aisle in front of her to speak to her one-on-one.

From one of the back rows, a community member stood up and tried to shout out a question: How many athletes transferred to Hayfield specifically to play football? Reid said a staff member would approach him to answer the question, making the exchange private.

Football moms and dads cheered for the coach while other parents left, shaking their heads.

“You call that transparency?” one parent asked rhetorically, looking toward Reid.

Why is it a secret how many new students transfers are playing football? If she is confident that they are all living in Hayfield boundaries, that question should be a simple one to answer.

I think Reid is one of the worst over paid superintendents FCPS has ever hired.

Good for this coach.

The green light for the Hayfield football program hasn’t convinced many area coaches, parents, and community members; in fact, they are more frustrated and angry at Reid’s apparent rubber stamp for very unorthodox and potentially unethical recruiting practices at Hayfield. One local football coach wrote a letter this week with his plans to step down once this season is over. He asked to be anonymous like many parents, coaches, and staff have done, for fear of retaliation by the school district.

“When Dr. Reid announced that the county would not penalize Hayfield for its brazen violations of recruitment policies, she has negatively altered the integrity of Fairfax’s extracurricular activities,” he wrote. “The rules she’s choosing to not enforce help ensure that students have opportunities to develop and participate in a variety of activities outside of the school day. These opportunities are denied to the organic athletes of Hayfield, whose playing times have been given to students of other counties and states.”

Raising questions about the school district related to player safety, competitive fairness, and integrity, he wrote, “...I cannot, in good conscience, continue to coach for this county. I refuse to be a part of a system that condones policies which harm children while advancing those who violate rules to the detriment of students and communities. I hope the damage done by today’s decision is not irreversible, and the honor and integrity of Fairfax County extracurriculars is not forever tainted.”

Reid is white.

I really don't see any kind of race angle. People hate cheaters and they really hate cheaters who take opportunities away from their own children.

The rumor circulating thru football kids at other schools is that 10 Hayfield players were told on Friday that they could not play because VHSL was investigating them. No idea if its true or not. I guess we will see if they all play this morning.

I have not read this whole thread, but I will say that what concerns me is the outcome. Now we have one football team in FFX county that is MUCH bigger, faster, stronger than all the other schools they will play. This is a serious safety concern. My son is playing freshman football and playing football for the first time. It's terrifying to watch him play against a team made up of college-sized, experienced football players. Of course many schools have a player here or there that is big and experienced, but it is not safe to have this sort of wildly disparate team that is unfairly crafted to be that way.

It's a safety issue.

Many of the other schools that will play Hayfield are smaller schools with a lot of FARMs kids and much weaker teams. They crushed those schools last year with their team of regular ol Hayfield kids.

Yes, this is why she doesn’t recognize how other minority students are being denied opportunities at Hayfield. She just looks forward to Hayfield football with its dozens of out-of-county recruits winning a title so she can celebrate “Black excellence.” Very transparent and patronizing.

They should forfeit so their kids don’t get hurt or humiliated. Shine the light on Hayfield’s improprieties that Reid refuses to do.

Heard that too. But only one Hayfield player is missing as far as I can tell.

Is there a way to follow the score? I hear hayfield is winning 14-0.

Sounds like you shouldn't have let your kid play football at all if this is keeping you up and worrying
