Only 30% of their students do greek life. It's defintely not a greek life school similar to other southern schools. They don't even have greek houses for the students--(small cottages to meet but nobody lives there and they don't rush until second semester). Kids live on campus all 4 years and you can have a car if you want but don't need one. They have significant scholarship money for those who show promise, give you $$ to offset unpaid summer internships in a variety of areas, and have a significant music center funded by benefactors. Beyond that it feels like a safe campus with great facilities, nearby stuff to do. good luck to you! I have no connections to this school but my HS kid just toured and this was my impression (which was very good). I didn't know much about the school beforehand. |
The AO at UR know how to market. That’s for sure. Just make sure to take a look under the hood. |
Neither of my kids even wanted to tour it. We're from NOVA maybe that's why. But they looked at the VA state schools. |
Same |
My son had a great tour and had signed up to have lunch with some current students. They told him that while Greek life officially has 30% of the student body, there are unofficial Greek like houses that really control the social scene. He appreciated their honesty and chose not to apply. |
Parties are also all off campus. |
Sorry you or your kid didn't get in. |
Why all the hate? this school seems tons better than most of the VA schools we saw except UVA and W&M. Nice campus, small classes, unique curriculum on leadership and flexibility to do a lot of stuff. I was impresssed. Seems some have sour grapes. It seems to fill a nice niche--not so small like all the NE schools that have less than 2000, but also not so big like tech where you get lost and sit in a lecture room. They also don't seem to nickle and dime you to death.
FYI- their stats would suggest this is not a school of NY/NJ. 28% mid-atlantic, 20% south, 17% New england, 11% international, 6% mid west and 4% west coast. To me this seems more like an East coast school with a mix of north and south. The students we met were the most well spoken I've seen in these tours....confident and comfortable in their own skin. |
Went last week and was not impressed, especially for the price tag. For $80K+, I really want to be impressed. |
My son wanted to visited but, honestly, I just never could get comfortable with the school. It’s not a school that my wife or I would ever have considered when we went to school. What so special about it now? Not seeing it. Decided to look elsewhere. |
It’s all marketing. No substance. |
Visited Richmond and WM last week. Tour at Richmond terrible. Wanted to leave after info session but we suffered through the campus tour. Taking it off our list. WM was nice, though. Kids seemed happy there. |
No one gets excited about sending their kid to Richmond. Let’s be honest: would you have gone there when you were looking? Had you even heard of it (and, yes, I know all the good LACs) 5/10/15/20/25 years ago? Definetley not worth $80k plus a year. Don’t even thing it’s worth $50-60k. |
Agree. There are 45-50 far better LACs out there. Don’t give me this “we are ranked #22 in the US News” silliness. |
Worst campus tour we took last fall - and we visited 18 schools. |
