True, but this is not necessarily a good thing.

These people take their politics with them when they move. I wonder how long Texas will stay red?

DP. I think you miss the point. Many of those leaving blue states are sick to death of blue policies/politics. That's why they're moving to red states.

No self respecting Jewish academics will be heading to Florida, where people believe in " Jewish space lasers."

Are you not aware of who attends and teaches at the U of Florida?

I am and almost all the good professors are gone.

Shands is struggling like it never has before.

And my tens of millions of $ of scholarship money is now at another school.

UF alumni who will never give it another dime.
Ben Sasse & DeSantis will make Florida colleges unaccredited. Yes they will.

Republicans in Wisconsin are killing the University of Wisconsin. Seems like they want to go the same thing in Florida, but faster.

US News ranking for the University of Wisconsin in 2018: #46 in National Universities. In 2024: #35. Whatever those Republicans are doing, it’s helping!

2018 was when Wisconsin elected a Democratic governor who used to be a teacher. He’s been vetoing the education spending cuts proposed by the gerrymandered Republican legislature and reversing all of the problems Scott Walker left.

That’s not what the hiring officials at these universities are saying upthread. It looks like a lot of temporary gap-filled positions are occurring this academic year. I wonder if they will have to resort to the same level of professionals used for their K-12 schools in Florida. Remember to become a public school teacher in Florida now, all you need is be a veteran of the US armed forces. No college or educational skills required. They just want you to fill a spot and teach by state sponsored PowerPoint.

+1 But they can’t get veterans to do it anyway.

The veterans are like “I already served my country, thank you very much.”

Oh, Florida. What are you going to do without teachers?

This certainly isn’t limited to Florida. There’s a massive teacher shortage all over the U.S.

Ahem.

“Florida has the highest number of teacher vacancies while Utah has the lowest.”

Oh, I love it! The usual troll is back - you know, the one who used to donate "tens of millions of scholarship money" to UF.

And someone was impertinent towards him in thread and much hilarity ensued. He’s always fun!

Well, for now, at least it’s a consensus then.

But they don’t even have reported data for some states. Why is that? (Serious)

I know a lot of professors. I know of no one who is moving.

UF has a very active lgbtq population as well as Santa Fe Community College, also in Gainesville.

The chief of police/security at UF is a vocal lesbian and has one of the highest rates of pay in the state in campus police/security.

Have you looked at the latest numbers? The growth is slowing down. The growth to TX is slowing also. Oracle is actually moving out of TX. I just read an article that Silicon Valley professionals are no longer moving to Austin, they are moving to NYC.

TY. I mean, the GOP had been in power in WI for some time for WI to fall to 46. Evers, Wikler, and so many other Wisconsinites are fighting to return their state to its rightful place.

You do realize, especially the NY to FL relo, largely represents baby boomer retirements. It's not a new trend, but greater in number, reflecting the "boom" of that generation.

I don't think so. I've seen Fairfax and Loundon (not to mention Arizona) flip from solidly red to blue. Why? People fleeing the northeast like New Jersey, and in the case of Arizona, California, and they take their political preferences with them.

I know you're right they're sick of what their home states have become, but I fear they're still gonna vote blue.

Virginia is not a good example.
They have flipped because of the massive growth of the federal government. Tons of federal workers turning that area blue.

Nobody from NJ is fleeing to Fairfax. They come here for jobs. I grew up in NJ and hate it but if I left from hate I wouldn’t move to NJ lite.
