young people move to FL and TX because it's cheap, not because of politics. I think some conservatives who tout how so many are moving to TX/FL don't understand the reason why people are moving there.. it's not because of their politics, but in spite of their politics.

These young people are just starting out, and if they are making $100K, they are being taxed a lot, so they escape to tax havens like TX and FL. Yes, I know TX has high property taxes, but young people aren't buying expensive homes.

No most of that is all legal and illegal immigration. Look at the numbers. The internal migration is from surrounding red state not from high tax areas. Tx and Florida young professionals leave as soon as they can. There is nothing for them in those states.

Professors?

Lol

AI is better, infinitely cheaper and less damaging

It’s better for those worthless idiots to have their oversized paychecks reduced by confiscatory level state taxes.

Professors make around $70k.

AI can also do a much better job than you can at a much cheaper price. Your point?

There is still a massive brain drain...basically people who can, leave, people who can't stay. there are a lot of MAGAs who are flocking to Florida and Texas and old folks retiring to the Villages from the cold weather states, but generally speaking, people who are, or want to be educated, are not staying.

Google searches are just that: Looking

In any case, people keep coming, so there’s hardly a shortage of Florida residents. Construction is booming.

No doubt, it is those illegals that are doing the hard work.

Tourism/beaches is huge for the FL economy, and the beaches/natural beauty are a big reason people move to FL. PhDs in ecology, biology, hydro and geology are important for FL. Most people know this.

Oh yes, I'm sure the ecology department at Florida Atlantic University is absolutely critical to maintaining the beaches. Whatever will Florida do without its academics?!

State/federal attempts to stifle critical thinking, devalue expertise, restrict acceptable content in curricula, and narrow the range of acceptable public discourse are hallmarks of fascism. But you would have known that if you were better educated.

You mean like all the state and federal attempts to suppress skepticism of the covid vaccines? I didn’t know those were hallmarks of fascism, thanks for educating me.

You understand that having miles of beaches unusable because of ecology issues becomes and economic development and revenue problem, right?

The brain drain from places like Florida and Texas will be slow enough that it won't really be noticed until it's critical - that's my 2 cents anyway.

If the GOP continues to dominated in red states I think the quality of life (and cost of living) will improve in blue states and decline in red states but you won't see any real effects for 15-20 years. I think one more electrical grid failure may start to turn the tide in Texas, but I'm not exactly holding my breath. There seems to be a massive amount of ignorance and apathy among the citizenry that governmental actions are carried out through the officials they elect.

Actions, consequences.

Also, let them make enemies of Disney and hopefully decimate their economy. Reap, sow.

Disney's is booming in Florida. Unless they are wiling to move the property, they are going to have to keep investing in it. Do you really think Iger is going to decide that DeSantis is mean and write off Disney World and move to a more welcoming state?

Colorado has already asked Disney to move there and is willing to do a lot for them.

So they will sink like Mississippi until they turn themselves around. Oh well.

Except the critical mass of wind and solar farms in texas has bailed out their grid during the hot snap.

You won't see the GOP recognizing this publicly.

FL cost of housing relative to wages isn't good. Florida wages lag behind the rest of the country Property insurance rates are awful.

Yeah, that’s why nobody is moving to Florida.

UF has really been rising in the rankings and just behind Uva. for public universities, so I think this is all B.S. And who cares anyway if the woke profs get driven out? That's a good thing. Maybe we can get back to actual education.

DP yes they will move Disney World if this continues or start really spending money in Florida to buy politicians. Disney World is one of six parks. The 6 properties world wide generate $28 billion in revenues of Disney’s $144 billion. So moving one park is something that they could do and really would not impact their bottom line.

It will be much more cost efficient to buy/support friendly politicians and take down the unfriendly ones likely DeSantis. Dump a few million in the next election cycle, take out the vocal anti Disney republicans and everyone will fall in line.

Like tracking hurricanes to Alabama, promoting hydroxychloroquine, and undermining the very vaccine that the operation Warp Speed facilitated?
