Birthday been posted on instagram for years then suddenly they remove it. I thought maybe they removed it because they didn’t want people knowing he was a 15 year old 8th grader.

This kid was also on that "questionable” 8th grade team last year.

The 8th grade team ought to be undefeated. They have a couple kids that reclassed twice and a kid from DC on the team. They are adding that to a team that was already probably the most talented for the grade.

McLean tends to attract top talent. They’ve definitely gone undefeated before.

You are allowed 2 kids from outside zip codes, so a kid from DC should be no problem.

Where is all this talent by the time they get to high school. Haven’t heard of McLean or Langley winning any state or even district champs. Haven’t heard of either being ranked in the state, Washington area, or even amongst the top Northern Virginia teams. And don’t see this changing by the time these kids become seniors high and even beyond.

If you feel good about cheating or bending the rules to win County, more power to you.

They mostly go to private schools?

Which privates do they go to? I don’t know of any college division 1 boys basketball players from McLean. Not even that went to private schools.
McLean may be good in the FCYBL where their power and privilege allows them to bend the rules and cheat, but if we are being realistic, the athletic talent pool in McLean is not superior to the other areas of Fairfax County. I actually believe it’s on the weaker side.

Do they have a kid on their team again who was on the 8th grade D1 team last year?

The point is they aren't fishing in the mclean talent pool LOL. They are fishing in DC and all over Nova.

There’s nothing McLean about a Nigerian kid who went to school in the Bronx and ended up at Harvard.

It's a different Max. So just one repeat player so far. That Max was one of their all-league players last year in 7th.

In FCPS, a kid with a 9/2008 birthday should be a 10th grader, not playing on an 8th grade team. Why do these parents want their kids to play down like that? I get that it makes your kid look great (to....the other parents? who cares?) to be dominating kids three years younger but how does that help them improve? I don't understand the thought process. In rec leagues, a kid is only allowed to play down like that if he has special needs but its weirdly encouraged in travel?

Simas K., Connor C., Wes O. received all-league recognition. Other players were Mark J., Hudson M., J.T. Holoubek, Max L. Tyler K., Luke S. and Luke M.

(There was also player named Gavin on the team whose dad was the assistant coach who isn't listed in the newspaper for some reason).

Here's the list of players registered so far this year:
Charlie C
Connor C
Declan C
Enzo (
Finnian H
Jack C
Maximus L
Paul B

Definitely looks like "Connor C" and "Max L." could be repeat players. Seems kind of strange to have two kids two years in a row on the same team who both flunked 8th grade.

Oh wow, I recognize 5 of the 8 kids currently registered. One is a double reclass and another is a reclass. If my kid was good enough to be all county last year and he was already a reclass, to reclass again this year just seems like overkill. I guess that’s just what’s happening in basketball nowadays.

Only knew a few kids from last years team. Didn’t know Max, so im not sure if he is the same as Maximus.

Obviously they will have more than 8 kids on the team and I am hearing that an additional reclass and an additional double reclass will be added to the roster.

Not sure, but their 7th grade team last year who lost in the championship to Gainesville had a Max. This Max was a good player, but was cut this year to make room for some of the ringers they are bringing in.

+1. This is wild to me. He should be playing high school JV somewhere, not in a middle school league.

Its incredibly uncommon for this league.
My dc played in 8th grade D1 last year. His entire team was regular 8th graders (one summer birthday red-shirt but that kid had been red-shirted all along). They had one zip code exception. That's the way this league was planned to be. The current commissioners are letting too much influence from the world of AAU into the league. It shouldn't be impossible for a regular team of kids who just live in your area to compete in D1.
