FCYBL-is this allowed?

This is why the league has to beg and sometimes force teams to play in D1. A team assembled in October out of local kids who just show up to try out can't compete with these year-round, shady squads. Its not fun to lose every game.

I think 7th grade boys d1 last year only had five teams. I wonder how they talked three more teams into being the sacrificial lambs of 8th gr D1.

Last year, 4 teams were moved from d1 after getting blown out the first few games. CYA, Burke, one of Vienna’s 2nd team, and I think Arlington’s 2nd team.

I meant more talented than last years 8th grade team.

Their 8th grade boys team last year was substantially bigger and better than every other D1 team and all the other D1 teams were good teams. Amazing that every 6'3 athletically gifted 8th grader in Fairfax lives in Mcleans zip codes.:::

The mclean 8th gr coach last year was the subject of one of the many poor sportsmanship reviews by the league and was suspended for 2 games after his team scored on their own basket on purpose to mock another team. Pretty gross.

Honestly if the league didnt allow so many special secret wink wink privileges to some coaches, they wouldn't have so many sportsmanship issues.

One of those big kids did live in Mclean. One of them didn’t and I know of atleast 2 other kids on that team who didn’t live in Mclean either.

Yes, its ridiculous to have so many rules and then not enforce them. Our coach said on the coaches' meeting call that the commissioner admitted they let TEN teams have 3 zip code exceptions. The limit is supposed to be a max of two, and they don't tell coaches they can apply for exceptions to have three, nor do they tell anyone what the criteria are for exceptions. So there are ten teams out there where 30% of their team is recruited from out of zip. At this point, why even have rules? The coaches who follow the rules are basically penalized.

Exactly right - and for zip code eligibility, they just ask clubs to “institute internal procedures to guarantee players are eligible to participate”…. Are you kidding me? And then they’ve scrapped simple but effective process of requiring teams to provide proof like they used to - which is ridiculous. And then act shocked that levels of shadiness and poor sportsmanship have ramped up. this league loves to make noise about encouraging sportsmanship - then spends its time (esp couple board members) sneaking into games and taking notes on small violations - while ignoring major problems with league structure itself.

My DH coaches and he was SO irritated after that meeting. They never discuss the issues the coaches think are important including "recruiting", pre-assembled teams, zip code cheating, getting at least a few "home" games somewhere actually close by, etc.

Apparently the commissioner stated that in response to poor sportsmanship last year (which starts at the top with the league commissioners playing favorites and turning a blind eye to coach cheaters), any kid who curses in a game will get an automatic two game suspension. That's ridiculous. Its not physical violence, its a kid blurting something out impulsively. The coaches were up in arms about this and wanted to discuss and the commissioner just shut it down and moved on.

They scored on their own basket? Like for the other team? Why?

How can a kid who should be in 10th grade right now not already have turned 15?

You mean before September 1st. I heard 2 kids have September birthdays. One does for sure. I think he is 9/27/2008. Was on his instagram page but has recently been removed.

Omg - don’t share easily identifiable minors’ birthdays! What is wrong with you?

The 8th grade team ought to be undefeated. They have a couple kids that reclassed twice and a kid from DC on the team. They are adding that to a team that was already probably the most talented for the grade.

McLean tends to attract top talent. They’ve definitely gone undefeated before.

You are allowed 2 kids from outside zip codes, so a kid from DC should be no problem.

Where is all this talent by the time they get to high school. Haven’t heard of McLean or Langley winning any state or even district champs. Haven’t heard of either being ranked in the state, Washington area, or even amongst the top Northern Virginia teams. And don’t see this changing by the time these kids become seniors high and even beyond.

If you feel good about cheating or bending the rules to win County, more power to you.

They mostly go to private schools?

They aren’t identifiable, unless you have intimate knowledge of the team. His family had it listed on instagram and the poster isn’t even say that was for certain. Calm down.

Kind of suspicious that they would hide his birthday TBH

Birthday been posted on instagram for years then suddenly they remove it. I thought maybe they removed it because they didn’t want people knowing he was a 15 year old 8th grader.
