Things are on the verge of falling off a cliff. Americans by and large can’t absorb these rising costs.

Maybe at one point, they will raise our salaries?

Wages are still increasing but inflation is eclipsing those gains now - data in this thread go back a few days/pages

Mine is not going up but ok.

Trump does not give a shit about struggling Americans.

Either you're part of his billionaire Epstein class or you are a nobody who doesn't count.

The stock market is at all time highs. As long as the AI bubble keeps bubbling, politicians and policymakers don’t care. Affordability issues are far the little people that depend on a paycheck. And they clearly don’t matter to Washington. The government will do everything to keep levitating the markets. Trump said himself he doesn’t give a damn about the financial situation of the majority of Americans. Only a decline in markets gets their attention, because that’s where the rich have their wealth.

Retail sales declined by an inflation-adjusted .1% in April from March as the rising price of gas leaves less money for nonessential items.

Absolutely nothing is changing when middle-aged and old people feel wealthy.

K-shaped economy. We are heading for some sort of uprising against the rich conservative elites.

It does not help that billionaires are viewed as protecting their assets and being unwilling to donate more than ever or engage in philanthropy. I think we may be headed for a complete uprising. FWIW, it was the perception of the left as being rich urban elites out if touch with the working class, and needing to "drain the swamp" that got Trump elected. And yet, he has made the distance between rich and poor greater than ever and the rich conservatives in bed with Trump are the swamp.

I’m still not feeling any of these calamitous effects in my life.

I actually just got a raise this week. Yes, it will surpass inflation by a long shot.

Our DC is a 2026 grad and has a job. We took them out to an expensive dinner to celebrate.

I don’t care which party is in the White House. I simply keep moving forward the best I can and spend a lot less time complaining and worrying than most people here.

Interesting, nonchalant, uncaring position when so many others are suffering. I vaguely remember my very own sister saying something similar to what's in bold. She was given a pink slip a year later under the guise of downsizing. The more likely story is that she was at the top of her salary cap because someone nearly twenty years younger was hired in a similar position three months later. It took her nearly two years to find another job at a lower salary, and that was after dipping into her savings and 401 (k). Life can hit hard when we least expect it, so PP, it would be okay to avoid being snarky or overly high-minded when discussing those who have lost their jobs, income, and are feeling a bit uncertain. You never know when it can happen to you or someone emotionally close to you.

I would tailor my delivery to my audience. This particular audience has its hair on fire unnecessarily.

If people are not seeing that this country is on the path to being Russia, then that is simply a lack of either caring or ignorance. either way, if you are white, Christian and have a net work over 2 million, then no, none of this is going to impact.

For everyone else, yes it will.

Enjoy your privilege.

You're fine right now, but there's no reason to think that will last. Tens of thousands of layoffs are happening across industries every month, and there isn't a hot job market waiting to absorb them.
