Most often a kid will just play up as a guest and be rostered at their correct age group and more often those "guests" will find there way on tournament rosters, but I've seen it happen to be rostered in league at both. But when that's happened, the player often ends up primarily on one team, anyway, once it sinks it trying to be on 2 teams is too much.

Some people just take a while to get reality into their thick skull.

But yes, this is what clubs will do. After a while they'll drop the hammer and say play on the team your grade or be demoted. Once this happens they'll play on the team thats their grade.

Playing on the correct grade in school team allows college recruiting to work 1000x better.

Also playing on the correct grade in school avoids 8th grade teams with 9th grade players that leave the team for 3 months during the season to play HS soccer.

Dont disagree but some parents need to come to the reality that they may be on SY but on second team. That is where the problem is.

The best thing to do with players and parents like this is to put them on the grade in school B team but let them guest with the grade down in school A team at tournamants. This why their path is set but the parents get what they really want which is to watch their kid beat up on younger players.

Laugh all you want but for some clubs this is a serious issue. How adversely a club is affected 100% depends on when a school starts during the year. As an example in California schools start in Aug so there will be very few Aug birthdays that need to play up. However in the Northeast some school districts dont start until late September which means every one of their teams will have 2 months of players that need to play up.

School is irrelevant
The league goes by AGE GROUPS

It's only a serious issue for clubs, teams and parents who can't read and understand a bloody calendar

Look at your kid's birth certificate or passport and register them for fitting age group

Grad years are still going to be a mix just as they are now. Many people hold their kids back so grad years won't line up for those held back a year who have bdays before August 1. And our club at least is not making the top teams change to SY so lots of those kids will be "playing up".

All top teams and club roster players this fall when we switch to SY will have the same graduating year. Except for the oldest group but thats because leagues merge two age groups together because players already recruited stop playing so others can get recruited and team sizes shrink.

The one positive with BY is trapped players were playing up which generated demand if they were good from college coaches. The top teams and the top level groups are the ones college coaches watch. They are also the ones that occur in the middle of the day on the best fields. The top college coaches generally setup base camp between the best fields at the best times of day and rarely wander fron there.

The crappy clubs and teams and age groups play on some land of misfit toys field either at 6am or 9pm when nobody is watching or cares.

This is why its important to play on a high level correct grade in school team.

Exactly, college coaches are up late getting free drinks so that nixes the atrending 9pm showcase games. Then the next morning they're hung over so that trumps atrending 6am games which are usually u13/u14 which they can see next year.
