The point is this is all so kafkaesque that the mere allegation does the damage. No investigation can possibly uncover the truth in this situation, I mean, come on. |
And I also find it incredibly depressing/scary that people in power - e.g., the Republicans on the judiciary committee - KNEW about these very serious and substantiated allegations (at a MINIMUM - K's roommate who is now a doctor in SF and went on record about K's bad drunk behavior) and tried to ram this nomination through before this new information was aired. Such a bummer (that this is the world we live in). |
Me, too. |
Yes, I do. To those who have asked why Ford would allege something untrue and endure the public scrutiny, I say this. Ford will not be remembered as the villain in this story. She will be lauded as the hero. THAT is the political climate we live in. |
I saw this kind of garbage several times in the 80's. All of the guys are now productive members of society, but don't pretend that they were choir boys in their youth. So that these events occurred, I have no doubt. I can't verify who was involved in the kavanaugh allegations, of course. |
What are you smoking, woman? People posted here that Ford was a loser because her articles aren’t cited enough and she teaches at Palo Alto U. Ramirez has no mega-watt career equal to the Chief Justice of the DC Circuit. There’s a “those with power” dynamic but you’ve identified the wrong parties. |
I am more concerned that the proper vetting and diligence be applied to our judicial appointments. The financials, the holes in the stories related to the GWB service to me are disqualifying, but the sex stuff is just off the charts. If true or even remotely valid, he should resign from the bench all together. You don't have to believe it, but that is your choice. Tha majority of American do not trust Kavanaugh. His time on the court would undermine its role as a fair and partial arbitor of US Law. |
Indeed, mere allegations destroyed Roy Moore's career, Moonves' career, others. Part of it is partisan glee in attacking a disliked candidate. But I think more of it is that Kavanaugh has shown himself to be slippery, evasive, loose with the truth. That may be expected or tolerated from a politician but a judge is not suppose to be a politician. Because he does not have trust, he's having a hard time denying these allegations. Judge is even worse. |
PP here. I did read the article and tbh I was hoping for Amy Barrett to be the nominee anyway, however the timing is just so suspect and the fact that these are sort of nebulous allegations that aren’t substantiated makes me suspicious. Why do these supposed victims keep bringingg their allegations on a Sunday evening news drop? Who knows, I’m sure if it was Barrett they’d come out saying her brother’s wife’s first cousin once said hi to a Neo Nazi or something. |
#metoo is a weapon in the culture wars |
You didn’t go to college? It seems if you did, you would find this credible. I attended an HYP in the 1980s and there was a lot of MK-style behavior. But not everybody was a mysoginistic ass when drunk, and not everybody should be on the SC. The worst is that all this just adds to his pattern of lying. I’d have worlds more respect for him if he said, “I was part of an ugly culture in my teens. I regret it.” Saying “Nope, never did anything of the sort” is more entitled BS. |
If Kavanaugh had gone with this, he'd be fine right now. But he didn't. |
Funny how no one could remember any assaults back in July when he was nominated. Why did Diane Feinstein keep quiet for 2 months?
|
Exactly. makes you wonder about his judgement on other issues. The flat out denial was his down fall. |
Barrett will never be confirmed because of explicit intent to overturn Roe in her writings. |
