Interesting information here: the “confirm Kavanaugh” domain was bought in February 2017.

How did anyone know that Kavanaugh would be the nominee? Why did they buy it over a year before they needed it? It’s not like making “winner” t-shirts with both teams; there are more than two options.

The GOP: when you just can’t help but vilify women.

Just as you vilify any and all conservative some. Hello pot.

Yes, I vilify any and all conservative “some.”

“I expect the woman thinks she is right but is in fact confused on the details of the incident including the people involved.“ if you aren’t little miss clueless and condescending. She knows the details; you haven’t bothered to read real news articles.

They picked Monday because they don’t want to leave time for any more info to come out, or for more accusers to come forward. They want to make it a simple he-said-she-said situation, and then just jam the nomination through.

We should have higher standards for a Supreme Court Justice. Can’t they find someone who *hasn’t* tried to rape a fifteen year old girl?

So who were the 4-5 other people at this alleged party? Why hasn’t the accuser identified them and why haven’t they corroborated, at a minimum, whether Jufge and Zkavanaugh were there? The current accusations, without more, provide a woefully inadequate basis to derail a nomination (or, conversely, if they do, just watch the character assassination that will accompany future nominations by both Democrats and Republicans).

DOJ on Kavanaugh: On..Sept 12, the FBI received a letter dated from July 2018 alleging that the nominee engaged in an incident of misconduct in the 1980s..the FBI forwarded this letter to the WH Counsel’s Office. The allegation does not involve any potential federal crime.

So let's dispence of the whole "last minute" tripe from both McConnell and Trump. They knew about these allegations from the get go and yet are standing today defending a possible criminal.

Why not have the FBI investigate it. The public deserves a Supreme Court that is represents the best of the best

We live in Washington DC. I'm probably not the only person on this board who has taken a poly. Why do people continue to act like they are some kind of truth serum or something???

I think Kavanaugh would pass a lie detector test just as the victim did. He was drunk and I believe he really doesn't remember. She remembers b/c when you can't breath, and you can't control when you can breath, it tends to stick in your memory.

I think the Repubs will still push him through after going through a charade of making it look like they heard both sides. You know, make it look like they respect women.

This job is a huge honor -- higher than even the presidency in the sense that it is a lifetime appointment. I understand that this event was a long time ago and Mr. Kavanaugh seems like he has been a decent person/judge (even if I disagree with his politics and his decisions)... but it seems like anyone getting this job --- this LIFETIME job with HUGE power over everyone in the U.S. -- should be held to the highest standard. And if any nominee falls short of that, he or she should be passed on until another nominee is found. Clearly that did not happen with Thomas (or with Trump for the "lesser" job of president). But, we are where we are today and not in the past.

We should have the highest standards for this appointment. I think the repubs should find another... but they won't and Kavanaugh will be approved... and the repubs will keep winning and the dems will sit back and grumble. Repubs know how to play hardball. Dems think they are too nice to use a switchblade. In the meantime, the citizens are getting the worst of it.

They may know the woman is lying.

Or that the public pressure/GOP-Dem pressure behind closed doors is more than it seems.

Or that they don't give a shit and know that no matter what comes out in any hearing, Kavanaugh will be confirmed.

I don't think that's right. If that was the case they would have pushed through the vote. This took them by surprise. I think some combination of Sasse, Corker, Flake, Murkowski and Collins threatened defection without a hearing and all red state Democrats said no yes without a hearing.

They're counting on her not being credible because this is really stupid if they have any intention of confirming K. A public testimony of this assault will only make it more difficult to confirm him. Watching a woman publicly verbally describe an assault will be worse than reading it.

I think they picked Monday because they think that's enough time to dig up dirt but honestly the Republicans are stupid. If they wanted to seal this up before midterms they should have either forced a vote this week or cut K loose and go for another nominee.

Republicans CAN’T cut K loose. Trump nominated him. Only Trump can pull the nomination. And TRump always, always, always, always fights back no matter what. They have to vote him down (pissed Trump base) or vote him forward (pissed women). It is lose-lose. Mitch McTurtle didn’t want K to begin with. Right now, he would do anything in his power to make him go away.

I think that there are quite a few R Senators who hope more women come forward and this nomination becomes untenable. Because they are cowards and don’t want to have to vote.

NP. How are these accusations fair to Judge Kavanaugh’s wife and daughters?

If he did this, then there are probably other similar incidents. I find it hard to believe that someone capable of attempting forcible rape does not have other serious skeletons in his closet.

If nothing else comes out, he will still probably be confirmed, unless Kavanaugh comes across badly during the hearing. The GOP wants a conservative in that SCOTUS sweat and is willing to take a hit during the midterms if they have to.

What does this have to do with anything? His wife and daughters aren't accused of anything.

You misread that one. They have no alternative.

Further incidents will be reported and he'll withdraw before Monday.

A week is an eternity in Trump time.

I’m a former (female) federal law clerk, and my grapevine says there are female law clerks out there. Wow, would it be tough to come forward though. Your career would be over.
