How to wear long hair in a professional setting

Anonymous
I have long hair and would like to keep the length but sometimes I feel it is not very professional-looking. I would like to try a more professional look without having to cut it.

If you have long hair and work in an office situation (not super formal but not casual either), how do you wear it to work?

Thanks!

I pull it back with mini butterfly clips in a French twist.

If in my office alone, I let it down, then out it up if I have to go to a meeting.

I cut it in long layers and style it with one of those blow dryer/curling iron/brush gizmos. Set with a little hairspray. Get regular trims. I don't get this obsession with long hair being unprofessional. The ladies who slick up their long, wet hair in a butterfly clip look unprofessional to me.

- ballerina bun (low or high)
- low ponytail

Low bun, low ponytail. I wear simple tortoise shell clips for a low pony tail because my hair is dark brown.

I always wear mine down. I feel like I look weird with mine up in a bun or in a ponytail. I'm self-conscious because my ears stick out.

I have waist length (but layered) hair and work in a professional office. I wear it down almost everyday, otherwise in a high bun. I do have the longest hair of anyone in the office and sometimes I do worry it's unprofessional. But whatever. My husband loves it (as do I) so I don't cut it.

What's your definition of "long", OP? My hair usually comes down to the bottoms of my shoulder blades (is a bit shorter right now as just got it shaped). I usually wear it down, but sometimes put it up in a bun.

OP here. A bit longer - just past my bra strap across my back.

And thanks for all the responses!!

As long as you keep it trimmed and in good shape, I don't think it's unprofessional to wear it down in most environments.

Puts curls in using the flat iron.
Also tease your hair and smooth out the top and pull into a low ponytail

I used to think it was unprofessional to wear long hair down, so I wear it up every day in a modified french twist. But I doubt anyone really cares if you wear it down.

As long as it's clean and brushed, it's fine.

Long hair looks unprofessional if you wear it down most of the time.

It looks best to pin it up.
