How to wear long hair in a professional setting

Anonymous
Long hair exec here. Here is my rotation.

1. Crap, I have a meeting at what hour? Where? Kids? Solution: Dry shampoo. Boars hair brush along the scalp to dissipate oil and talc. Loose low ponytail or bun. Loosen hair to frame face, liberal hair spray for confidence.

2. Leisurely morning. Wash & dry hair. 30 minutes later... Frizzy clean mess. Flat iron or curl into submission. Twirl further to tame craziness. Upbeat day.

3. Salon. Outsource. Blowout. Perfection. Reserved for important meetings/happenstance.

Low ponytail
French twist

If you wear it down, it should be trimmed neatly (no split ends) and out of your face.

It looks best to pin it up.

Who ARE you fuddy duddies anyway? Probably the same women who think makeup and clothes that are fashionable are "unprofessional."

How many times have you seen nude hose and 1-in wedges recommended on this board? Sad.

Or what? Seriously? I would like to know what catastrophic even the grannies on this board think will happen if I show up to work (gasp!!!) with a few split ends? You'll think less of me? That's fine. . .I'll also be rolling my eyes at your below the knee length skirts, sallow skin and bordering on orthopaedic shoes.

I cut my hair twice a year, so that it starts out shoulder length and gets pretty long over the next six months. Near the end, I usually put it in a low bun every day.

I think a lot can depend on how healthy and thick your hair is. If you have long, thick, healthy supermodel hair you can get away with it more easily than if it gets sort of thin and scraggly at the ends. if that's the case, you're better off cutting it shorter.

Whatever you do, avoid the butterfly clips and scrunchies. They are awful unless you're going to the gym.

I do have the longest hair of anyone in the office and sometimes I do worry it's unprofessional. But whatever. My husband loves it (as do I) so I don't cut it.

Yep, unprofessional. And dated.

How is it dated? Every celeb I see has hair extensions my length/cut/style.

I actually strive to wear my (just past shoulder-length) hair DOWN because it seems unprofessional to have a pony tail everyday (which is what I would otherwise do). Am I missing something? Can I really get away with a pony tail all the time!?

Not unless you want people to think you never put in any effort and don't wash your hair.

Waist length hair is dated (Crystal Gayle anyone?) , but far more egregious make you look like a Duggar.
