Wasington Episcopal School - Losing Teachers?

Anonymous
I heard that Washington Episcopal School is losing a lot of teachers this year including the headmaster and chaplain. Is this true? I haven't seen any job openings posted on the website other than the search for a new headmaster.

It does not matter what happens at WES until they get rid of the Head of the Elementary School -- it's long overdue!!

I haven't heard about more than one teacher leaving. I know that both teachers in DC's grade will be there next year, as will the two in the grade she's advancing to.

Thank you for your response. That is helpful. I had heard from a neighbor that several people were leaving such as the headmaster, division director, priest, and several teachers.

I think several teachers over a k-8 range leaving per year is pretty normal at a school. Teachers face all kinds of life transitions just like the rest of us. They move, have babies, retire, climb the ladder with a different employer....

+1.

HOS has already communicated to the WES community on April 24, the faculty and staff leaving WES.

OP: 4 teachers, associate director of admissions, and the school Chaplain will be leaving at the end of the current academic year.

Does that include the teacher who left suddenly around Spring Break?

It looks like the chaplain's job continues to be a revolving door.

I don't believe he is included in that number. These teachers are in addition to him.

So, if you add up the 4 teachers, plus the Chaplain (has he only been there one year?), the assistant admissions person, the 3rd grade teacher that "abruptly left during spring break" -- that is SEVEN people leaving this year -- not including the Head of School! Some prior posters are working some serious "spin" on here with their wording. If you see skid-marks near the front doors, our family left them -- couldn't get out of there fast enough!

Us, too. Left quite some time ago but have noticed five different chaplains since that time. Maybe it's just a way station for clergy in making.

Six staff leaving is totally within the norm of transition at a school WES's size. Nearly everyone leaving is looking at opportunities like getting an advanced degree, moving to a new part of this county due to a significant other's job, etc. The Chaplin is leaving to oversee two churches. It would be one thing to leave for another school position but that is not the case. Let's keep to the facts and tone down the fire alarm.

For anyone who is reading this, please know there are a few people that are constantly putting misinformation out about WES. I would bet that the negative comments posted on this entire board are from 3 people at most.

I'm not even at WES and I can attest that this amount of turnover is not unsual
