| I lost 30 lbs about 1.5 years ago and it took me about 5-6 months (June-December). I did essentially what you propose so it wasn't a fad diet - really a basic lifestyle change. So it was actually surprisingly easy. I have kept it off since then but am now working on the next 10 lbs. Hope to knock that off by mid June. |
| It took me 6 months to lose 30 last year. I cleaned up my diet and got a trainer to teach me to lift properly. |

How will you know you are lowering your overall calorie count?
Make sure you are measuring your portions (actually getting out measuring spoons, cups, or a kitchen scale) and recording it so you know how much you are actually eating!

Because I gained the 30 pounds by eating out of stress and boredom. Eating candy and simple carbs all day long. No more sugar, no more white foods. |
I gained 50 in pretty much the same way. My diet is pretty much diet soda, sugar and white carbs and a sedentary lifestyle. At some point I am going to have to change and lose it. I have gained so much now that it feels like so much to lose |

I think realistically about 6 months. Though be prepared to lose faster in the beginning and then plateau at some point and then need to change it up (cut out all carbs, increase exercise lots more, etc.)
I've lost a little over 20 lbs in 3.5 months and have found that it is increasingly harder to lose. |
