My daughter is one of them. She was actively recruited by coaches from both ECNL and DA teams who had seen her play to switch to their '04 teams for the 2018-2019 season. She chose to stay at WS because she's very happy with the environment, she loves her coaches, she enjoys the connection to the pro staff and team, and her development this year has been off the charts. She and we are very excited to see what next year brings.

Exactly. There are 03s and 04s that could go anywhere.

Next year will definitely be an upgrade for all the age groups at WS VA. U19s will gain a very strong group of girls from the U17s (who made the play offs). Half the 03s and 04s are being cut because they just weren't at that level. The U17s will take the stronger with the new combination, not to mention some ECNL pick ups and some DA pick ups. Same goes for the 04 team.

All age groups had players playing up, at least some, and when playing up wasn't feasible because the roster was too big, they had regular training up. So yes, WS made developmental decisions, and yes, it "cost" WS wins, but are we going through all this for wins or for development?

This is why they must separate that age group. Dumb decesion by USSF.

There is also an elephant in the room for the 03 and 04 age groups. They had 4 gks this year. 2 clearly are DA quality and 2 are not there yet. 1 of the 2 will drop down to the ECNL, which is probably a better fit). The other has gotten a lot better, but still isn't ready. She is going to try a year of EDP and continue to get the training.

But WS gave them their starts, gave them plenty of game time, and yes, it hurt score lines...sometimes by 6+ goals a game.

Just because they are running a test pilot in the Frontier division this upcoming year does not mean they are going to split the 16/17 age group the following year. The boys DA has had that combined 16/17 age group for over a decade and they have not split it for them yet, so I would not assume it is a slam dunk for the girls next year.
