How about, justice for a human who was discriminated against for his race and sex.

It doesn't have to be one thing or the other. It can be - and is - a mix.

But it is offensive for all these lazy mediocre white people to pretend that blacks invented race-based preferences.

No. It is known that arrogant, supposedly liberal whites created race-based preferences as they think blacks needed the help because they are inferior, and in providing overt help would blindly secure their votes for years to come. You know what? It worked. You fell for it.

Are you and the PP who ranted against "mediocre white people" the same person? Because both posts reflect views that are cartoonishly over-simplified. "Lazy mediocre white people who pretend that whites invented race-based preferences" on one side versus "arrogant, supposedly liberal white people who invented race based preferences because they think blacks are inferior."

I think we should all bring down the temperature on this: at least 49% of people from all races are below average in something.

That’s not how averages work. Outliers can skew averages. This is why you need to understand median and mode too.

Yeah, kinda hard to believe that when we just had Fairfax County go on a crusade to target Thomas Jefferson HS on "diversity, equity, and inclusion" grounds for having too many Asians.

It is one thing to say "nobody should be excluded," which is an idea pretty much everyone would support.

When you insist the system has to be gamed to make sure certain groups are advanced, regardless of the actual merit of the individuals in question is when you get into trouble.... and that is what the entire modern D&I effort is about.

Diversity, equity and inclusions goes beyond just race. There is economic diversity, equity and inclusion; gender diversity, equity and inclusion; etc. The goal of the TJ effort was to ensure students who have the aptitude to do STEM — but maybe not the finances for endless tutoring pre-admissions — can get into TJ and do just as well. My mother taught at a similar school (one that recruited kids from all walks of life) and they all excelled once they were in an environment that fostered learning.

Why don’t we just start with the radical notion that all schools should be environments that foster learning. That would truly be a radical step.

So do you want a just society or not?

Nobody could argue against the bedrock idea of DEI but it’s an utter disaster in reality that’s being largely driven by a cottage industry of grifters who are profiting from corporate training and re-education programs.

I don't see a need to start with justice for white executives and hope that we then move on to justice for other groups.

Black women living in poverty, I suppose. That's probably the group of any real size that's most likely to be on the receiving end of injustice.

OK, Mr. Birch. You are clueless. Race-based preference is what kept blacks down for all of U.S. history. Why does removing that boot off their necks terrify you so much? I’m from Mississippi, so I’ve heard racist bullshit my whole life. Yes, it is always the lazy mediocre white people who are obsessed with keeping blacks in their place. They know they can’t cut it without that white privilege carrying them.

We have all had bullshit thrown at us our whole lives. Sometimes people just don't like you, sometimes a bully decides you're going to be their next target, some of us heard short jokes our whole life, or jokes about our religion, or were from the "wrong" part of town, etc. etc. etc. and so on. Why is it Hispanics, who arguably hear as much if not more than the blacks in this country still manage to get ahead? The main reason is they pretty much stick together as a FAMILY, with a strong father in the house, same as Asian households. Two parent households and education are pretty strong predictor of successful outcomes for children. Why is it only one minority in this country cannot seem to get ahead and claim white privilege? I don't hear Indian or Middle Eastern or Asians or Hispanics blame white privilege and are able within a two or three generations to get ahead. Think about it.

As a society we need shared values that we can all support. Policies should be colorblind and help and opportunities should be available to everyone regardless of their race.

I am tired of people like Pelosi saying "Our diversity is our strength."
No, Nancy. Our shared values is what makes us strong.
The focus should be on how we are alike - not different.

+10000

E Pluribus Unum

So much of what has made American what it is is the idea that an American can look like anything and anyone, that people from all over the world can come here and become, simply, American.

The modern Identity Politics obsession with binning everyone into hyphenated categories and scoring them against each other is attacking the fundamental fabric of the country.

This isn't unifying!

If there is anyone that still wishes for a more unified America, where all politics aren't reduced to a zero-sum game between two warring extremes, stop dividing people.

Stop teaching people that every policy must be examined first and foremost through the lens of identity. Stop teaching children that their race/ancestry is what defines them and that the country is full of oppressors and oppressed.

We need to build a society where people are judged on their actual achievements and that pathways to success exist for all, but that those pathways are as colorblind, and sex/religion/etc blind as possible.

This nation has never been ‘ colorblind’. We are only hundreds of years out from slavery and decades from the Voting Rights Act. Yet, you think the bashed in, generational attitudes and actions and impact of that goes away if we just close our eyes and say it loud enough! People like you care nothing for anyone whose experience is different is yours and does not perpetuate the lies you believe.
Deliberately ignorant.

Racist and ignorant. And any idiot who thinks people should just tolerate racism or bullying or any other unnecessary hostile obstacle is sick in the head.

HR offices that tend to be filled with people who hold a mediocre mentality.
