A- it is literally a state law they have to B- we have no say over the plan. You won’t even know til the SB convenes again and announced what admin has decided. Nor will we. Cause we don’t decide. C- I am begging you to get an education |
We don’t have a choice. Frankly, we never did. I was surprised last year when Brabrand made the decision last fall to go all virtual. |
There was evidence of this all throughout the summer last year. What evidence (from the teachers) do you see right now? |
When he made that announcement many other school districts on the East Coast had decided to start virtual. |
The sentiment of teachers posting this summer/now is entirely different than last summer. Post after post saying they’re looking forward to being back and are done with virtual/hybrid/etc. Delta is not a permanent wave. It’ll come and go. |
Also, the logistics of trying to run two parallel systems came crashing down. |
Um yes we will. I DO NOT want virtual in any form. I’m not sure I’m willing to teach it. That’s not my job description this year. Teachers can and will take leaves of absence if they are forced back into virtual or concurrent. |
Exactly, last summer during the month of July, teachers were receiving countless emails from HR on how to submit ADAs and what documentation goes with it and they were attaching telework forms. This was for all staff not just teachers submitting ADAs. We had all so received surveys about our comfort level regarding returning to school. It was a totally different vibe. None of that is happening now. |
The vaccine dashboard says 58% fully and 64% partially. It’s 70% and 76% of adults. But more broadly, I have an anxiety disorder. So, I know this: if you are focusing on what could be instead of what is, ou will make ourself and everyone around you crazy. And here is what is— delta is causing mild breakthrough cases in vaxxed adults. Not hospitalizations. Not death. Get vaccinated. Stop putting off getting your 12-18 vaccinated. Wear a mask. Help your kid find good fitting KN95, KF94 or cloth masks with filters. My teen likes these. They are soft and have filters. They work for smaller, young adult faces. They also have kid sizes. https://www.google.com/search?q=snoozies+masks&rlz=1C9BKJA_enUS778US778&oq=snoozies+masks&aqs=chrome..69i57j0i512l3j0i22i30l2.2714j0j7&hl=en-US&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#oshopproduct=cid:16931491130192634741,oid:809404730260646635,rds:UENfNDE2NDAxMDkzODU5Mjc0NTM3MHxQUk9EX1BDXzQxNjQwMTA5Mzg1OTI3NDUzNzA%3D,pvt:a&oshop=apv Help your kid re-adjust to wearing a mask. Then go. Keep an eye on the data, and if it changes readjust. Right now, there is no crisis. And there is no evidence there will be a crisis in NOVA. You are basing your decisions on places with a vaxx rate that is half of ours, and where mask mandates are illegal. That isn’t us. If the data changes, that’s one thing. But the OMG Florida! hysteria is counterproductive. |

This will make you all happy…guess what started today?!
Fall sports!
|
It actually does make me happy. If we are going to have problems with teens, we will see it in sports before all the kids go back. |
And I as a parent will pull my kids out of school if they’re forced to do virtual again. |
+1 We both teach ES students and have no desire to do anything but in-person instruction. Nobody we know has shown any hint of feeling differently. |
Okay, and that is your choice. |
There are exemptions in the law. Staffing is one of the exemptions. FCPS has publically said that they do not have enough bus drivers for the fall. Who knows if they have enough teachers? Watch what happens in the south in their schools carefully over the next two weeks. I'm glad we are not going first. |
