How exactly is pointing out that people can catch strays anywhere making excuses for DC's violent criminals? |
| Gunfire on a city street or any street is not a random occurrence or accident. To try to minimize someone's death to try to score points about a completely different topic is pretty sick. |
Nobody is doing that, but you can keep arguing against imaginary people if you'd rather do that instead of engaging with what people are actually saying. |
Yeah, but now we’re on the “stop policing communities so much. Let social workers handle a bunch of this. Defund the police” restorative justice kick and we won’t be back on the tough on crime style of policing for a while. The crime has to get bad enough that people actually realize that maybe we should actually let police do their jobs. Not kill people, but really they need to be allowed to arrest violent criminals. Then again we have Charles Allen and Karl Racine and everyone is so woke it hurts and maybe we gentrifiers deserve type of mentality. It’s stupid. It’s self flagellation by liberals who side with criminals. It’s going to fk up the tax base when all the tax payers leave and it’s just violent teens riding atvs around with no one stopping them. Who knows. |
They’re woke and you must not mind the actual people who pay taxes getting shot. I’m sure it’s just the cost of doing business for a woke society. Right? Second chances, after school programs and sensitivity training will stop all this. Yes, we have a stupid, woke city council who are soft on crime and we have a stupid comprehensive plan that was revised by stupid religious groups who protested to ensure we have 0-30% AMI included with a bunch of new development at places like Res-13 , along with more stupid subsidized housing which just creates more generational dependence and stupid crime. It’s all stupid but you feel good don’t you? You feel like a sanctimonious progressive foisting all this poverty and crime on a city that was on an otherwise trajectory. Fk em I say. Let them move. If you can’t afford the rent and you can’t be peaceful get the fk out. |
How is it useful to state that you can get shot anywhere? What’s the point of that statement? What good does it do? I suspect it is often said to downplay urban violence so that the person stating it can feel like a righteous social justice warrior. But downplaying such violence hurts - not helps - innocent DC inhabitants, and those inhabitants are disproportionately black. So it seems to me you’re contributing to the pain of these people so you can feel better about yourself. Which I find to be incredibly selfish. But, you know, just a theory.
|
It is useful to state that you can get shot anywhere because it is useful to push back on untruthful hysteria. You can suspect it's to downplay urban violence and to make me feel like a social justice warrior, but your suspicions would be incorrect. But, you know, those are the facts.

The fact is that violent crime is significantly worse in DC than in the suburbs. Ignoring that fact (or pretending it’s not true) hurts DC residents, but I doubt you care about that. It’s not hysteria to acknowledge reality. Get real. |
Given your post you probably have not been paying attention, but this discussion was spurred by someone being freaked out by a stray bullet in DC. That is irrational, given the context that 1) people get hit by stray bullets in the safe suburbs of DC too, and 2) fatal car crashes in the suburbs of DC are much more common than stray bullets. That's hysteria. Get real. |
|
Beyond the tragic death by a stray bullet, there is real crime that ended up driving us out of dc. We left a few years after the bands of violent kids would steal from the stores and mug and attack people in the street.
We only experienced property crimes but they were scary and annoying. All our bikes were stolen. A man tried to break into our house in the middle of the day (while I was home with my kids). Our cars were broken into repeatedly. We had our windows broken in the front room in the middle of the night. |
You are the one not paying attention to drive your agenda to minimize violence and this guys death because you have an issue with cars. It's pretty sick and you should stop it. Furthermore, you are saying things that are just ignorant of basic facts. No one is getting killed by "stray bullets" in the "safe suburbs of DC". Furthermore, this mans death was no accident. You are someone that clearly does not care, but if you did you would take the time to learn that men had a gun fight on that corner that included handguns and rifles. Neighbors have been complaining to MPD about violence on that block for years to no avail. You're entire premise is nonsense and you insistence on continuing to do what you are doing is offensive. |
Pushing back against hysteria is not minimizing this man's death. And yes, people are hit (and killed) by stray bullets even in the safe suburbs. Here's one that happened in Annapolis just a few days ago: https://wtop.com/anne-arundel-county/2021/06/20k-reward-offered-after-midshipmans-mom-killed-by-stray-bullets-in-annapolis/ I am sorry to hear that this fact offends you. Really, I am. Once again, you're free to keep arguing with an imaginary person, but if you're going to talk to me it would be nice if you responded to the things I've actually said and not just the things you imagine I've said. |
You seem ridiculously focused on car crashes. If you want to start a thread about them, go for it. But this is not that thread. |
This person believes that Annapolis is a DC suburb. Explains everything about everything they are posting. |
That's pretty rude to imply that victims of car crashes don't matter. |
