This seems crazy...killed by a stray bullet eating out with your wife? Do dc people really not feel freaked out by this? Seems like things are spiraling here...

This is really tragic. I’ve lived in this city a long time and can never recall something like this happening. Totally senseless and DC really needs to fix up quick.

Jeremy Black, 53, of Takoma Park, Maryland, was shot and killed when two men opened fire on each other in the 1400 Block of R Street Northwest, a few blocks from Logan Circle. Black was the father of two children and worked in the Inspector General’s Office of the Peace Corps

Here’s one person determined to stick it out. Not sure that everyone feels the same way.

Resident Debra Drake heard the gunfire and said she was worried about escalating violence in the District. She said she will remain in the area, though.

“I refuse to be driven out of a city that I love and support by what I see as a temporary blip of insanity, and hopefully it will be rectified soon,” she said.

It is awful, but we take on similar risks of death or serious injury driving on the beltway. Why does this random occurrence scare you more?

I actually started laughing at first and then stopped at how offensive and disrespectful it is to the man that was murdered and his family.

Living in the city shouldn't be a place where this is normed. That's a disservice to residents and saying you don't think the perps could/should make better choices.

Look, I live in DC. I hate driving and think people aren't careful enough given how dangerous it is-- but this is an absolutely absurd and offensive comparison.

I think it’s pretty logical, but we’ve just gotten so used to seeing “tragic car accidents”, collectively shrugging, and moving on. Personally, I think we should be just as pissed about both.

You are trolling to encourage negative responses. I am not going to oblige. You have been told that your conduct is offensive, it would be recommended that one should take that feedback and stop.

DP. They're right though. This stray bullet is as much of a random and tragic occurrence as a fatal crash on the beltway, only we've been conditioned to accept one but not the other.

Fatal car crashes can happen anywhere. But are you going to catch a stray bullet in Bethesda or Fairfax? Nope. You DC residents are nuts.

It can happen anywhere, somebody just caught a stray in Annapolis the other night. Fatal car crashes are much more likely on suburban arterials than the comparatively narrow and slow streets of DC. You suburbanites are nuts.

DP. I’m a DC resident. If you think violent crime is as high in McLean as in DC, you need a reality check. Stop making excuses for DC’s problem with violent crime. The only people you’re helping when you do that are the violent criminals.
