https://wtop.com/dc/2021/06/man-killed-by-stray-bullet-on-popular-dc-nightlife-corridor/ This seems crazy...killed by a stray bullet eating out with your wife? Do dc people really not feel freaked out by this? Seems like things are spiraling here...
It is awful, but we take on similar risks of death or serious injury driving on the beltway. Why does this random occurrence scare you more?
Look, I live in DC. I hate driving and think people aren't careful enough given how dangerous it is-- but this is an absolutely absurd and offensive comparison.
I think it’s pretty logical, but we’ve just gotten so used to seeing “tragic car accidents”, collectively shrugging, and moving on. Personally, I think we should be just as pissed about both.
You are trolling to encourage negative responses. I am not going to oblige. You have been told that your conduct is offensive, it would be recommended that one should take that feedback and stop.
DP. They're right though. This stray bullet is as much of a random and tragic occurrence as a fatal crash on the beltway, only we've been conditioned to accept one but not the other.
Fatal car crashes can happen anywhere. But are you going to catch a stray bullet in Bethesda or Fairfax? Nope. You DC residents are nuts.
It can happen anywhere, somebody just caught a stray in Annapolis the other night. Fatal car crashes are much more likely on suburban arterials than the comparatively narrow and slow streets of DC. You suburbanites are nuts.
DP. I’m a DC resident. If you think violent crime is as high in McLean as in DC, you need a reality check. Stop making excuses for DC’s problem with violent crime. The only people you’re helping when you do that are the violent criminals.
How exactly is pointing out that people can catch strays anywhere making excuses for DC's violent criminals?
How is it useful to state that you can get shot anywhere? What’s the point of that statement? What good does it do? I suspect it is often said to downplay urban violence so that the person stating it can feel like a righteous social justice warrior. But downplaying such violence hurts - not helps - innocent DC inhabitants, and those inhabitants are disproportionately black. So it seems to me you’re contributing to the pain of these people so you can feel better about yourself. Which I find to be incredibly selfish. But, you know, just a theory. :)
It is useful to state that you can get shot anywhere because it is useful to push back on untruthful hysteria. You can suspect it's to downplay urban violence and to make me feel like a social justice warrior, but your suspicions would be incorrect. But, you know, those are the facts. :)
The fact is that violent crime is significantly worse in DC than in the suburbs. Ignoring that fact (or pretending it’s not true) hurts DC residents, but I doubt you care about that. It’s not hysteria to acknowledge reality. Get real.
