Each school has supplemental essays on top of the common app.

Some of these are pretty minor. For example, UMD has a few sentences for the student to complete.

How many big 3 kids are applying to UMD?

UMD has been getting more popular each year at our Big 3. Applications are up and typically at least 1 graduate matriculates at College Park. From what I'm hearing, applications will be up due to Covid. One, because of the fears of traveling long distances. Two, because alot of people got shell shocked after miserable ED1 results.

Curious about this, too.

If you do really well at UMD I’m sure you will have great options for graduate school.

That is very impressive if true. But what about Harvard?

She sounds scary. At least you’ll be rid of her by June 2021!

I haven't heard much but I think that's in part b/c everyone is treading on eggshells, afraid to ask. My semi-educated guess is that as a class, they will do as well, if not better than usual. Maret students seem to focus on the SLACs, and full pay families should be doing very well gaining admission to any SLAC this year.

Applied to 22 colleges total. Accepted to all 7 EA schools applied to.

Did your DD apply to ED1?

This makes you kind of easy to identify, no?

Ok. Your point? Who am I? LOL...

People at your school may find you obnoxious. I didn’t realize your daughter applied to 22 schools!

Oh let the Mom be happy for crying out loud !

Congrats , PP ! I’m sure your daughter has worked very hard and deserves all the yield coming her way

Well Done , Mom and congrats that all the sacrifices you made turned out to be worth it !!

Enjoy

Athletes at about half of those.

Yes, but at least half of those athletes were also NMSF or AI of 240 so its not accurate to suggest that they are somehow only admitted for Athletic ability

No acceptances to Harvard from GDS yet. Maybe in the spring

And the kids who didn’t get into those schools in the ED round had high test scores and GPAs, too. Not saying the athletes aren’t qualified, am saying being a recruited athlete make the difference.
