GDS

What's the max number of applications allowed at GDS? Did they increase it this year due to Covid? Why did they limit the number? Who give them the right to limit?

10. No. Presumably to keep the experience within reasonable bounds for students and staff. Schools have many rules; this is just one of them.

10 is enough IMO.

10 is not enough this year due to covid. Any private schools cap the number is so stupid!

Thank you!

How is Landon doing this year?

10 apps is a lot when you think about the supplemental essays/questions.

This year may be wackier than most due to the test optional factor, but if you split your choices equally among reach, probable and safety schools then you will be ok. I don't think applying to 15 schools is going to help if all your extra choices are still top tier.

AND if the kids want to do the extra work to try because this year is, indeed, wacky, but the school wants to continue to have a 10 cap, this is .... why?
Colleges are thrilled to have increased applications so they can report high #s of apps and low acceptance rates.

So why continue to cap it at 10? The kids want to do the work. The colleges want the high app numbers.

Whom does it hurt? Ask yourself that and why GDS would say keep it at 10, even during these unpredictable times. Other privates in the area have relaxed their application limits.

Which schools have rolled back the limit? Will they only roll it back for one year?

Does Sidwell limit the number of applications?

With the common application you get up to 20 applications submitted. So there are no multiple essays.

Each school has supplemental essays on top of the common app.

My kid had to write 1-3 supplemental essays per school on top of the common app essay.

People at your school may find you obnoxious. I didn’t realize your daughter applied to 22 schools!

Surprised Holton allows 22 applications

They don't now very parent at Holton knows who you are and that you are bragging about your daughter. I'm sure she will be thrilled....

Some of these are pretty minor. For example, UMD has a few sentences for the student to complete.
