They are 58 and 59. Someone said that AARP considers 52 to be “elderly” and it got picked up that parents are 52.

"De-escalate a situation"?? There WAS no "situation" until that maniac pulled out a gun. One guy was knocked over, possibly by accident, in a crowded store. Happens a lot, believe it or not. It doesn't make the news though because nobody starts firing bullets at people.

But yes, it certainly does sound like the guy was a shitty cop and a loose cannon. And a murderer. He should be in prison for 2nd degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Sadly true. What if there had been another cop in Costco that day who didn’t know the other guy was an off-duty cop? He looked like any other mass shooter, gunning down men and women. There would have been a blood bath.

It was already a blood bath but yes, this!!! Or any ol' "good samaritan" with a gun, for that matter!

In the hours following a violent rampage in California in which a lone attacker killed 12 individuals, including a police officer, and seriously injured at least 12 others, citizens living in the only country where this kind of mass killing routinely occurs reportedly concluded Thursday that there was no way to prevent the massacre from taking place. “This was a terrible tragedy, but sometimes these things just happen and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop them,” said Kansas resident Carrie Grant, echoing sentiments expressed by tens of millions of individuals who reside in a nation where over half of the world’s deadliest mass shootings have occurred in the past 50 years and whose citizens are 20 times more likely to die of gun violence than those of other developed nations. “It’s a shame, but what can we do? There really wasn’t anything that was going to keep this individual from snapping and killing a lot of people if that’s what they really wanted.” At press time, residents of the only economically advanced nation in the world where roughly two mass shootings have occurred every month for the past eight years were referring to themselves and their situation as “helpless.”

You are making it sound like this guy bumped into the cop by accident (Oops! Sorry, dude!), the cop lost his balance, fell down and came up shooting. That's different than being attacked, slammed to the ground and briefly knocked out which is what the cop's lawyer has indicated happened.

We need to see the video tape.

This is satire. But satire has elements of mocking the truth.

Perhaps. and I would imagine that if the video shows he was truly out cold, the defense would go that direction. But to me, it's just another reason why people shouldn't carry around guns as commonly as they do their wallets. So many things that could go wrong in an instant. Three people gunned down in a Costco! And the article below shows that more could have easily been killed as the officer opened fire.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/18/us/costco-shooting.html
David Winslow, a lawyer for the officer, told The Los Angeles Times that his client had been shopping with his wife and 18-month-old son when he was knocked to the ground by a large man, later identified as Mr. French, while they were standing in line waiting to taste food samples.

Mr. Winslow, who could not immediately be reached for comment on Tuesday, told The Los Angeles Times that the officer was briefly knocked unconscious.

Dianne Bawit, a 21-year-old student at California State University San Marcos, said she had been shopping for bottled water when she saw a man, who she later learned was the police officer, falling to the ground. She said he had appeared to be in distress.

“He fell pretty hard because I heard a pretty big thump on the ground,” Ms. Bawit said. “He looked like he had a heart attack.”

Ms. Bawit said she initially went to help the officer, but retreated as the altercation escalated.

“He stood up by himself. He pulled out his handgun and starts triggering five to seven shots,” Ms. Bawit said, adding that she was within 10 feet of the men and then took cover. “I was hiding in between the meat aisle, behind the freezer section. I thought I was going to be dead, too.”

Wow - he fired several times?!

People should be able to go to Costco without getting shot by off-duty cops. WTF?!

Don’t attack a cop, and you won’t have a problem.

Who could tell he was a cop? He was off-duty and not in a uniform.

Oh ok then . So it was fine to just assault whoever. Great.

Where did someone say that? You have reading comprehension problems. Your point was that if you don't attack a cop, you wouldn't have a problem. Someone (very logically) pointed out that the cop wasn't even in uniform, and didn't have cop tattoed on his forehead. Anyway, since the dead victim was disabled and non-verbal, he may not have picked up on the distinction even if the cop was in uniform.

If you argue that the cop wasn’t in uniform nor did he have police tattooed on his head, surely you also agree that the victim didn’t have a sign that said “mentally disabled” around his neck, or tattooed on his forehead, correct? So neither knew who they were dealing with, no?

I think the PP was being satirical

The point is that it very much may be a real article. People may very well read it - both within the US and in other countries - and think it's a real article. Which is completely freaking insane.

Sure, he was justified in shooting three people repeatedly. I’m sure a jury trial will absolve him entirely.

Depending on the facts that ultimately come out, this case may never see a jury. No criminal trial if the prosecutors don't prosecute. No civil trial if a judge grants summary judgment.

What if...what it...blah blah blah

What if it was an active shooter and an off duty police officer took out the shooter?

You people are so brainwashed by the media. You sit around waiting for a video that appears to validate your hatred for police officers. And then you pretend to know what you're talking about despite having zero training or experience. Meanwhile, thousands of police officers deescalate potentially violent situations and choose not to shoot when faced with a potentially deadly threat.

My, you live a rich fantasy life.

If the shooter was “knocked unconscious”, how did he manage argue with and shoot three people?

+1 the police can keep the relevant video under wraps for years. Sandra Bland recorded the officer who pulled her over four years ago and that tape didn’t come out until earlier this year.
