It's now easier to perform an abortion in the state of New York than to legally apply a tattoo.

Cheaper than 18+ years of food, housing, college, etc.

Or extensive medical bills if the child had a serious health issue.

If you don't want the baby, no one will force you to keep the baby. You know that, don't you?

Well, a woman might not be willing to die in order so her severely deformed child can languish for years unwanted in foster care. We’re not talking about the beautiful, healthy white babies that barren religious people are paying $50k a pop for or the charmingly moderately disabled kids that “enrich their parents lives with so much joy.”

The experts I have heard (OBGYNs, mostly) have said it is more dangerous on a woman's health to undergo a late term abortion than childbirth.

Why don't you tell us what you think happens in a late-term abortion? What about the procedure is more dangerous? Do you even know what goes on?

Here is one case. The woman actually went through childbirth. Her baby's heart was stopped by a drug and then she was induced to deliver. She just did it much earlier in the pregnancy than she would have if she had had to wait until 40 weeks. So it was somewhat easier on her body because the baby was smaller.

So what was more dangerous in this scenario than if she had had to wait 8 more weeks to deliver a larger baby that would die shortly after birth? In fact had she waited she would have had to have major abdominal surgery -- a C section -- to deliver. You probably think that is what she should have been forced to do.

I can't fathom how anyone could read this and NOT come to the conclusion that no one is entering late term abortions willy nilly. In this scenario, the baby would have been born ONLY to suffer, to choke and die and feel pain. We don't even treat our pets with that much disdain and lack of caring. We don't just sit there while our pets gasp for air and decide, well, so what. NO. We take them to damn vet and put them out of their misery with a modicum of decency.

This woman said: To be clear, if the doctors thought there was any way he might make it, I would have taken that chance. [Of delivering naturally despite having had brain surgery and putting her life at risk]. I truly would have put myself through anything. What I came to accept was the fact that I would never get to be this little guy’s mother—that if we came to term, he would likely live a very short time until he choked and died, if he even made it that far. This was a no-go for me. I couldn’t put him through that suffering when we had the option to minimize his pain as much as possible.

Why is this so hard for people to understand???

According to research completed less than 10 years ago, most women get late term abortions for the following reasons:

"They were raising children alone, were depressed or using illicit substances, were in conflict with a male partner or experiencing domestic violence, had trouble deciding and then had access problems, or were young and nulliparous."

You’re mixing apples and oranges. Those stats are overwhelmingly about second trimester abortions, not third trimester abortions.

That research is about abortion at 20 + weeks, which includes many still within the 2nd trimester and pre-viability. All the kerfuffle here is about supposed post-viability abortion and third trimester abortion. Overall, data is sparse or nonexistant, but it seems apparent that those abortions would be desperate cases, fetal anomoly or maternal health.
issues.

Also, if you actually care about later abortions, then you'll work hard to make sure women can access health care, birth control, and access to early abortion services, right?

No one would help this woman end the pain and suffering of her loved and wanted baby with Potter’s Syndrome, so she had to have a c-section to deliver a transverse baby with no chance of survival after being beaten by her own body, since she didn’t produce any amniotic fluid.

This law would have helped this family.

Unborn babies are a great blank screen onto which conservatives can project all kinds of cultural angst. Liberals are baby-murdering monsters. Women are whores. Sex is sinful and the sinners should not escape God's righteous punishment.

If reducing abortions and/or providing for the well-being of children were the actual goals, we'd see policies that were a lot different - more sex education, better access to birth control, more affordable prenatal care, more affordable daycare, etc.

Other examples of late term abortions, from Dr. Jennifer Gunter, OB/Gyn:

*25 weeks, severe growth restriction and fetus not expected to survive. Pregnant woman has severe pre eclampsia, chooses abortion over c-section.

*32 weeks, anencephalic fetus. Pregnant woman just can’t take people touching her belly and asking about the baby. Chooses an early induction, which is technically an abortion.

*Triploidy pregnancy. Had been planning to deliver at term and have hospice. At 36 weeks, transverse lie. Can’t be induced for this reason. Does not want a c-section. Chooses a dilation and extraction.

This law helps these families.

Says who? Lifezette?
“Less than 0.3% of women undergoing legal abortion procedures sustain a complication requiring hospitalization. Women are 14 times more likely to die from childbirth and three times more likely to die during Caesarean delivery than a vaginal birth.
