Would love to see how cool and collected you would be under the circumstances.

Everyone I know would be, actually. We are well-mannered adults, experts in our fields, and got to the top not through wealthy white connections but through hard work and excellent social skills. Of course we'd do a better job. And some of us have been in extremely contentious, extremely high-stakes, situations, and been calm and dignified throughout.

This man is not worthy of the Supreme Court or any other top job.

That's the point. He didn't go into this trying to be professional, thinking about his civic duty and the right of Americans to get the truth about a candidate for the SC. He knew it was reality TV drama and he took his plays from Coach Trump. Trump wasn't happy with his Fox News appearance. Said it was calm and robotic. Asked him to get angry and defend himself vehemently. Trump understands his base and TV, if nothing else. This was all staged spectacle.

Prosecuting a crime that happened 36 years ago, for which there is no evidence beyond the accuser’s own testimony, is nearly impossible, and the process tears communities apart.

The Democrats did not do Ford a favor by encouraging her to go public with this.

oh f*ck you

this isn't a criminal trial. it's a job interview for the most important legal job in the country, in an institution that increasingly looks illegitimate.

+1 If he were innocent he would have welcomed an investigation. There's a lot of people in Chevy Chase who won't feel comfortable having him around their kids anymore.

People in Chevy Chase are the most shallow folks I have met. They will absolutely have their children around s SCJ, even if he has a history of sexual assault.

In fairness, he has a history of being accused of an historical sexual assault as a minor, 36 years ago, which only came up due to an intensely partisan confirmation hearing where one party was actively searching for any reason not to confirm him. Don’t assume that everyone is unable to see the difference.

There were reports of his alcoholic fueled attacking of women from when he worked at the white house. Shut down by the republicans though.

His acting like a douche to sentators, violently yelling, throwing questions back at senators like a freakshow. He is a judge - and he has a huge temper and acted terribly. I wouldn't let him be around my dog, let alone my kids. He is not an entertainer like a trump.

His testimony yesterday was creepy. He may have impressed Donald Trump with his "testosterone" but it just validated the possibility he could be an angry, predatory drunk.

Oh, that was his testosterone leaking from his eyes. Makes sense now.

that was frustration and anger to the point of tears that his entitled ride to the top was not going smoothly.

This is what you get in electing Trump as president. Our whole country is going down the tubes.

He wasn't tearful when he was interrupting every Senator and being rude about their questions and ranting about how this was a Hillary Clinton conspiracy. He may get his Supreme Court seat but 75% of the country wouldn't welcome him to their homes, much less let a kid have a sleepover at the Kavanaugh house.

Brock Kavanaugh will forever be an embittered justice just like Clarence Thomas. They can sit together and stew about women.

Just want to say here, for all the posters who are against Republicans, that this is not, ultimately, a Republican versus Democrat battle. It's about abusive people in power (usually men). It's easy for us left-leaning people to see that the Supreme Court nominee is a poor choice, because we don't like his views to begin with. How many of us would find it so easy if a person we agreed with was accused of the same thing?

So look within yourselves, all of you. I hope we can all do the right thing even if the person accused is one of our own party.

You are right. And Dems did, at great cost to themselves (Franken). Republicans will never stand up against one of their own. Zero. Moral. Credibility.

Everyone is treating this as a decision based on his entitlement to the job. He is not entitled to sit on the supreme court. Just because his name is put forward doesn't mean he gets it if Ford can't prove he assaulted her.

There are 325 million people in the US and there is not one other equally qualified person to appoint? Politics or no, how can you appoint someone for life with that open question?

Texting my friends in AK to reach out to Murkowski's office because feeling helpless here in MD....

He looked like an angry man who would not answer yes or no questions and spouted off about left wing conspiracy. Just the type of person one wants for the supreme court?
