Hat tip to Trump for his unassailable SCOTUS pick

Manchin and Heidi H have or will be meeting with him despite the general boycott by Democratic senators. I expect there will be at least 55 votes in favor.

How is reviewing policy documents penned by Kavanaugh derailing the nomination? This is a lifetime appointment and deserves proper diligence.

They are asking for much more than simply what Kavanaugh has “penned.” They want access to documents when he served as staff secretary. Most of these documents, he did not write, but just passed to the president.

Everything about this upcoming Supreme Court nomination is hyper-politicized. It's happening in an election year, support for Brett M. Kavanaugh is falling largely along party lines, and it could firm up the court's 5-4 conservative majority in a way that has liberals worried they'll lose future fights over health care and abortion.

Viewed that way, it would be natural to see Senate Democrats' long-shot effort to extract documents from all of Kavanaugh's time as a top aide for George W. Bush as a politically driven effort to slow down his confirmation or a frantic reach for something — anything — that could throw a wrench in it.

They're asking for documents from Kavanaugh's time as Bush's staff secretary, a high-level position that made this Supreme Court nominee a human email inbox for the president, putting him in possession of nearly every document that reached the Oval Office from 2003-2006.

Republicans, who are in control of the process of requesting Kavanaugh's documents from the National Archives, have declined to delve that deep. They're looking at documents from Kavanaugh's time in the legal office of the White House from 2001-2003 but not his time as staff secretary.

Now Senate Democrats are going so far as to accuse them of hiding something in Kavanaugh's past.

Sane advice for Democrats though I doubt they will take it

They should at least let vulnerable Democratic senators to vote for Kavanaugh's confirmation.

Democratic senators have caved and will now meet with Kavanaugh

Smart move. They need to do this, win the house/senate, and prepare for a much larger fight.

Sorry, but that’s not how it’s going to go down. Those vulnerable Dems need to rubber stamp the President’s pick to even have a CHANCE of keeping their seats, and at least some of them will get the boot anyway. The GOP will hold the Senate and will pick up some seats along the way.

But it will upset the progressive wing - the crazy left as some may describe them who want a scorched earth policy when it comes to Kavanaugh.

Well, they’ll just have to be upset. Fortunately there is not too much crazy left in North Dakota, West Virginia, and Alabama, and since all politics is local, no one outside those states gets to decide.

Kavangauh will sail thorough because he is eminently qualified even if he is a conservative - despite the usual hysteria by liberals who see the end of the the US with everything that Trump does.

Re Nunes basically confirmed how tainted this nominee is. Add that to Merrick Garland and th fact that the GOP won't release files from the National Archives directly related to Kavanaugh written record and the whole thing stinks to high heaven.

The Democrats are trying to derail the nomination: they want it delayed until after the mid-terms. The Republicans have called them on this - Kavanugh will be confirmed.

Why is it okay that when Sotomayer was nomiated, 99% of her White House records were made available to the Senate for review before her hearings, but for Kavanaugh, .08% are curated by his clerk and made available?

This is not how a lifetime appointment should work, and the precedent that the GOP is setting will not be good now or in the future.

How are making records from the National Archives available to the Senate derailing the nomination? This is the proper diligence the Senate has always, until now, provided. It bodes the question, what is the GOP trying to hide, but cloaking these documents.

Since you don’t watch the news you might wonder what we’re all talking about, but Nunes gave away the game. Force Kavanaugh through, impeach Rosenstein causing a constitutional crisis to be resolved by the GOP-owned Supreme Court. No way should Mr. 200K in debt get confirmed.

Kavanaugh will be confirmed and more than likely there will be Democratic senators who will vote in favor of his confirmation. Though they will wait to jump on board after it becomes apparent that Kavanaugh's confirmation will take place with just Republican votes.

Democrats in the Senate will become apoplectic when it happens as will the liberals on this forum who will make their usual display of hysteria.

I really do wonder what has gone wrong with Republicans. Donald Trump is clearly guilty of a great many prosecutable offenses. The GOP response? No big deal; the man should appoint a lifetime justice who is clearly terribly, horribly flawed.
