| Winston, Whitman and Poolsville are the better schools. WJ is a bit shady. Home prices sink in Wooten And WJ. They are the red headed step child. |
So popular that it is under enrolled and a Guaranteed yes if selected in school choice. Sounds super popular. But what do I know about the DCC, I was able to buy a house in a good area. |
It’s underenrolled - and popular - because they just built a huge new building. |
I’ve never heard of Winston? And why do people keep mentioning Poolsville? Who wants to live out there?! |
Nothing. |
My child actually attends Wheaton and it is full. This summer they will be converting an open area into classroom space to accommodate demand. For at least the past two school years, Wheaton has been the 2nd most requested DCC school in the choice lottery, behind Blair and ahead of Einstein. Eighth graders are literally warned during the choice process not to get their hopes up about Blair, Wheaton, or Einstein because there are so few spots available. |
Thank you, actually knowledageble poster! So sick of the PPs who obviously don’t have kids at these schools spouting off as if they know literally everything about every school in MCPS. |
Poolsville is way way out here. But is number one rated school in Maryland and houses are cheaper. If you have a stay at home spouse it can work if you value education and have a low housing budget |
These responses make me laugh. How many of you said the same thing about the Olney area? And now look. Things change. “Rural” areas are the next ones to develop. Poolesville was an area the DCUM folks area always poked fun at. Bethesda will crash & burn; mark my words. And then people will be scrambling to move to next hottest place. |
If you value your childrens’ education, which the illiterate post by OP shows he does not, you’ll send them to Churchill, Wootton or Whitman. Fin. |
I doubt Bethesda will crash and burn because of location. |
Everyone can't afford to live in those 3 HS clusters and that doesn't mean that they don't value their kids education. I am in Whitman, but have friends in many other clusters. You can get solid education in many other clusters. |
+1 Its also OK to have a different priority set. You can decide that education isn't your top priority. I know people in other areas who did decide that top schools weren't their biggest priority. They wanted a bigger house and to feel like the "richer people" in the school rather than the "poorer people". They are perfectly fine and proud of this choice so more power to them. What is so strange in this area is that the people in the bad DCC schools seem to want to pretend that their schools aren't bad. They can't be that clueless, its pretty clear that Blair, Einstein and Wheaton are not strong school. If education isn't a priority then choose Einstein or Wheaton and own your decision. You'll probably have a bigger house or feel more "on top". If education is a priority them choose Wootton, Whitman or Churchill own your decision. You'll probably have a smaller house not feel rich. |
Location. Location. Location. |
Agree mostly here. WJ was a happy medium and that option is gone now. |
