Here you have the reason why the Democrats may cave:
With hours to go before a midnight deadline for Congress to fund the government or shut it down, most Americans say avoiding a shutdown is more important than passing a bill to maintain the program allowing people brought to the US illegally as children to stay, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS. It is patently ridiculous to shut down the government with all of its ramifications just because the Democrats insist on amnesty for 800K DACA recipients who illegally entered the country! Repeat: they are in the country ILLEGALLY and yet, Democrats are willing to actually shut down the government? Insanity!! http://www.cnn.com/2018/01/19/politics/cnn-poll-shutdown-trump-immigration-daca/index.html |
Invite them to get on the path to citizenship if and only if they join the U.S. military for a few years. |
|
No, Democrats are refusing to let a pack of lying traitors get away with whatever they want.
I’m a Fed and my household suffers from a shutdown. But if Republicans want to keep refusing to do their damned jobs, I’ll sit tight. Seeing how Republicans are allowing a stupid idiot to lead them around by the nose is nauseating. If there’s no work on Monday, I’ll use the downtime to join a movement dedicated to defeating them. |
CBP should deport your sorry ass, you f*cking idiot. |
Democrats should drop the issue and focus on something more tangible to the majority of the US population. Cost of prescription drugs? Improved transportation infrastructure? Subsidized STEM degrees? Paying teachers more? Any takers? |
I agree! I can't believe the Democrats put themselves in a position that people will see that they were willing to put the entire country's welfare into jeopardy to cater to illegals who don't even have a right to live in the US. Republicans should just refuse to link DACA to the spending bill. |
I agree. Why not focus on an issue (or issues) that would benefit Americans? The ones you mention are excellent. I'd start with subsidizing STEM degrees, as our country is falling further and further behind other developed nations. And definitely - something needs to be some about prescription drug prices. But threatening to shut the government to better the lives of people brought here illegally (and who have already benefitted as a result) is just the wrong priority. |
It makes me wonder... who is determining the strategies for the Democratic party? Do they actually know anyone who is an immigrant or Hispanic? |
Hey Senate! Anyone check in on the water in Detroit lately? Instead, we’re going to die on a hill for DACA. Shameful. |
| This is firmly on Trump and the GOP. They can’t run the government. They can give rich people a break, something they benefit from too! It’s on them! |
Those are partisan issues. DACA is not. Trump, McConnell, and Ryan all want a solution for DACA. Democrats are asking Republicans to pass something that the Republicans are in favor of. |
Agree. Americans have complained that Democrats care more about the interests of illegal immigrants than the welfare of citizens, and this situation reveals it in spades. |
|
Me thinks the force of "the Democrats care more about illegal aliens....blah blah blah..." talking points are strong in this thread this evening.
Maybe the truth is that the social media outreach folks here are mostly old-fashioned Grover Norquist type social media outreach folks and not Russians. |
| Why does Trump need to postpone is trip to Florida? It’s not like anyone cares what he thinks anyway. (R’s included.) |
+1 Trump & GOP are pathetic. Can't govern. Totally inept. |
