With hours to go before a midnight deadline for Congress to fund the government or shut it down, most Americans say avoiding a shutdown is more important than passing a bill to maintain the program allowing people brought to the US illegally as children to stay, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS.

It is patently ridiculous to shut down the government with all of its ramifications just because the Democrats insist on amnesty for 800K DACA recipients who illegally entered the country! Repeat: they are in the country ILLEGALLY and yet, Democrats are willing to actually shut down the government?

Insanity!!

Democrats should drop the issue and focus on something more tangible to the majority of the US population. Cost of prescription drugs? Improved transportation infrastructure? Subsidized STEM degrees? Paying teachers more? Any takers?

Those are partisan issues. DACA is not. Trump, McConnell, and Ryan all want a solution for DACA. Democrats are asking Republicans to pass something that the Republicans are in favor of.

And they already made a deal on DACA back on September. The issue now is Trump and some of the Republicans trying to reneg on what they had previously agreed to.

Exactly. He's not essential so if the government shuts down it's not like he's going to have to work anyway.

He will be there tomorrow since it’s a fundraiser. He is so dirty.

He’s having a great time and enjoying the show. It’s like watching his wives and mistresses fight amongst themselves. They hate him but they want his money. He loves the mess he made. The ratings will be fabulous.

The public already blames the GOP for not getting the job done. Trump's erratic behavior and inevitable tweets will reinforce the belief.

I agree! I can't believe the Democrats put themselves in a position that people will see that they were willing to put the entire country's welfare into jeopardy to cater to illegals who don't even have a right to live in the US. Republicans should just refuse to link DACA to the spending bill.

Horsesh*t. If you control both houses of Congress and the White House and the government shuts down, it's because YOU WANTED THE GOVERNMENT TO SHUT DOWN.

Trump manufactured this drama back in September for the sole purpose of purpose of putting Democrats in a lose-lose situation. Eff that joker and his entire broke down car of clowns.

The entire world is against you jackasses.

McConnell likely doesn't even have some of his Republicans, so there's no way this falls on anyone other than
McConnell, Trump, and Ryan. They should have honored their agreements, stopped fooling around during the CRs in the fall, and continued their negotiations from last week rather than sh*tholing the discussion. McConnell could have taken a vote last night, but adjourned. When your military and defense spokespeople ask you not to do CRs, shouldn't we listen?

Shut it down already!!! No self-respecting conservative needs the government, right? So who cares?

Not only are several Republicans refusing to vote for the Republican plan without DACA, but there’s a bipartisan plan supported by both Dems and Repubs that includes DACA and has MORE votes than the non-DACA plan. Trump loses.

Cloture is going to get 46 votes. Freaking pathetic.

There is a bi-partisan bill on he table that would have a veto-proof majority in the Senate and Ryan and McConnell are too chicken-shit to bring it to a vote at the expense of DACA and CHIP.

Looks like the GOP only knows how to say no, not actually govern. What a surprise!

Put the bipartisan DACA bill on the floor and it WILL pass. The votes are there. Get it done McConnell!

The dummies had a deal until Tom Cotton showed up to torpedo it.

Someone should lock that fuckstick in a closet. Would solve a lot of problems. Put Louie Gohmert in there with him, just because Gohmert is a rat faced little shit.

They should kick Cotton upstairs into some Secretary-type job so he doesn't continue to make a mess in the Senate.
