Hardy Middle School -- 5th grade in feeder school -- who's considering Hardy for 6th?

Unfortunately, the white kids at Hardy and Stuart Hobson can't hold a candle to those at BASIS, Deal and Latin (other than for Algebra vs. the Deal kids) on the PARCC.

Maybe next year's scores will be more encouraging.

You can't say that because ALL the Latin and BASIS middle school students took the grade level math PARCC (math 6, math 7, math 8), not the Algebra or Geometry tests.

DCPS had those students enrolled in Algebra I or Geometry take the related PARCC subject test. So no way to make an apples to apples comparison.

OSSE gave each LEA the option to decide what tests to administer. Most of the charters didn't use the PARCC subject tests.

So what's your excuse for the better scores at Deal?

Actually if you look at the scores in the subject areas Hardy scored better than Deal.

You put way to much emphasis on these test scores. I am excited to send my IB kids to Hardy.

So what's your excuse for the better scores at Deal?

I remember reading here a few years ago that there was a vote, and it was in favor to the uniform.

As a parent of a middle school girl who wears a uniform all I can say is " thank god for the uniform!!" They will not only save you money but also much heartache and time (no child late for school because they're still trying to put together the perfect outfit and WAY less time shopping). Don't knock it until you've tried it!!

PS my daughter is at a private with uniforms and we LOVE them!!

Bully for you, who can afford private. It is great that you could make the CHOICE of a school with or without uniforms. Those IB for Hardy have no choice.

If you come to Hardy you have to respect Hardy's culture and history in DC. Otherwise your options are to go charter or move to a suburban cul de sac.

actually I guess if you come to Hardy you can ask for change. You can't expect it to change to accommodate people who have not come to Hardy, and probably won't in either case.

But you can always complain here about being cut out of Deal.

Bolded just for emphasis. Since we're probably going to have to say it over and over because this poster/these posters just can't let their obsession with uniforms go.

Hardy just had one of its SEM teachers receive the prestigious (in DCPS) Rubenstein award. Ms. Whitty. (SEM STEM teacher.) She's a jewel.

Yuck. Accept the culture of failure or leavd. How depressing for the kids.

Up to now (last several years), we've been thinking the math/reading proficiency numbers aren't quite good enough for us to send our DC to Hardy. Instead, we'd do private. But I've talked to two families over the last couple months who have a DC at Hardy and both have had generally positive things to say -- one had a DC there last year and one has a DC just who just started a few weeks ago. We would so love to avoid the $30K tuition for a private. Is there any talk among your school's 5th grade parents to go to Hardy as a "block"?

The good privates are substantially more than $30K

Are you insinuating at OP is considering sending his/her child to an inferior Private? what's your point?

Between a rock and a hard place, because the default choice is considered to be an inferior public middle school (compared to Deal).

What a relief to know that some people have better choices, thanks to their great wealth and despite their rotten personalities

We met Ms. Whitty at one of the Hardy events. I was very impressed and I am sure this is a well deserved award. She is one of many great teachers at Hardy. - IB Family that is very excited to join the Hardy Community
