Possible, but I know several Eatonparents who are not down about going to Hardy though (my kids are younger so I don't know as many as the younger year parents). Smaller school, less crowded and good options. It's going to be fine.

Looking forward to visiting Hardy to check it out, but I'll be surprised if there's a big change in the in-boundary numbers.

A few years ago, Hardy didn't have a boys soccer program (football, but not soccer) but it looks like they do now according to the school's website. That's a big step forward in the athletic program, at least for in-boundary boys.

That is key (no pun intended). They need to continue to build out sports and other extracurriculars and make a priority getting some scheduled access to Jelleff field across the street.

This thread is struggling to exist. At least y'all dispensed with pounding on "uniforms" as an issue and moved on to test out "soccer." What's next? Lacrosse? Badminton? "Gasp!" Hardy doesn't have Badminton!? What an inner city school that place is.

You can belittle all this, but just like strong academics, activities and sports (beyond basketball and football) matter to IB parents. In the past they have looked at Hardy's offerings compared to Deal's and asked "WTF?"

If Hardy wants to attract more IB students, then it needs to be responsive to what its "market" wants. Clearly, there are still those in the Hardy community who are ambivalent at best about attracting more IB students.

Hardy could ditch basketball and use the savings to start a fencing program.

So the deal with Jelleff is that in 2010 the Maret School put in $2.5 million in exchange for exclusive use of the field until 5:30 on weekdays, spring and fall, and certain Saturdays. That deal started in spring of 2010 and will end in the fall of 2019. Which is only four years away.

Presumably Maret is going to try and renew the deal. If you at a Hardy feeder and are considering Hardy it is very much in your interest to insure that this deal is not renewed. This is particularly true if your child is in fourth grade or below and will be in middle school after the fall of 2019. Having this facility across the street would be a huge amenity for Hardy. Normally under DC law DCPS teams have the highest priority for using DPR facilities. The Maret deal required that the DC Council make a special exemption, any renewal will require council approval as well.

It's not too early to start raising the issue with your elected officials.

Huh? All the Hardy parents I know (mostly IB since I live in Burleith) are interested in making Hardy the best school possible for their kids. And yes, they are excited about the advanced academic offerings as well as the new clubs.

Yes, thanks for the suggestion. But please make sure you pass on the right information: Maret's exclusive use is only from 3:30 to 5:30 on weekdays (not for all day until 5:30 as you message seemed to indicate).
