That section was just a small part of this bigger story, that everyone has heard for years, but based on all the side eye and strange looks whenever someone brings up Lyanna and Rheagar, you can tell didn't happen the way. The fight with Arthur Dane is important cause Bran sees that what he was told was not the truth, but why? We will see more of this vision as the season progresses and the whole thing is going to unravel- hopefully all to reveal the very popular fan theory that Lyanna and Rheagar were in love and secretly married and had a boy, named Jon....

I agree that it's odd, and against Ned's character, to lie and say you killed someone when someone else did it, and saved your life. In the books he was upfront and didn't lie about how it went down. Anyway, I think PP is correct--it's to show Bran that not all of what he was told by Ned is the truth. EG, that Lyanna was "abducted" rather than eloped with Rheagar, and that Jon Snow is their love child, whom Ned promised to protect and raise as his own, as Lyanna lay dying.

Yeah I feel like they just "touched" on a lot of really important threads, and then boom, done. I feel like this though was more of a "building" episode where you get a lot of information on a lot of storylines, but next week you get more action.

This is from a Time article. Lots are thinking there is no way that was ShaggyDog...

However, while the moment was an upsetting one, some are speculating that the wolf head did not actually belong to Shaggydog and that the Umbers’ show of loyalty was part of a larger conspiracy to overthrow Ramsay as Warden of the North.

I hope you are correct. I'm with the earlier PP and don't want any more dead Stark direwolves.

I think he loves it. I can't think of any other well rounded roles for little people, (Warwick Davis in Willow perhaps). This character is a complex 3 dimensional character. Any actor would be thrilled to have a part like Tyrion. I'm sure Peter Dinklage is thrilled to have the role. The fact that his character is made fun of is much less demeaning that playing a "cute" munchkin. It's a part. Sometimes actors play ugly people, mean people, and even Hitler.

Its the crowning achievement of his career. He is thrilled out of his mind about it -- interview the NYT.

I have been reading up on this theory as well, I really like it- the whole "the north remembers" storyline could be really awesome this season but it might be too hopeful- no matter what that wolf head was way too small to be a Shaggy Dog, I would love for that to be intentional instead of an oversight!

Other guy? That was Howland Reed, Meera's (supposed) father. (Or is she really Jon's twin sister ...?) Ned was willing to lie to protect Howland's reputation, which he was also willing to do to protect Jon from the wrath of the Baratheons. Remember how Ned objected to killing Dany in Season 1?
