I think, what it comes down to, is that in most parts of the world, white is the power color and, the lighter you are, the more likely you are to have privilege and presumed positive qualities (whether or not they're true). So, generally speaking, I think people subconsciously have a preference to stay with white, or inter-marry white, to lead an easier, more comfortable life. Survival of the fittest, in a way. I'm not saying it's right or true in all cases, but generally so. The converse is true in parts of the world where darker people are the power class. There, it is generally preferable to marry a person darker than you. Can anyone see any truth in what I'm saying?

This thread is funny. I think it speaks much more to parental psychology than racism.

IMHO, I think all views are pretty worthless until they've been tested by experience. Fortunately, many bigoted people change when they have contact and become closer to whomever they are bigoted against. Most of it has to do with comfort levels. Unfortunately that is not always the case. But either way, it is pretty impossible to say how you'd feel until you live it. I think parents have all sorts of ideas about how their kids 'should' live their lives but eventually they have to deal with reality and let go of their expectations.
