The consultant and Reid staff on this study should have included the AAP to MS. If Skyview boundary is set for Coates, McNair, Oak Hill, Floris, Fox Mill [on Coates study which excluded Crossfield] you have base load ins for Carson/Skyview. About 33% of Fox Mill SPA count was west of 286. So why would anyone move Crossfield South Lakes to Skyview? Floris has 2 SPA that are <20 students who should remain Westfield and get an ES/MS boundary change. Carson/Skyview border Loudoun County and the massive commercial area including IAD-Dulles. That should be far easier than doing anything on schools where the site is surrounded by other FCPS school boundaries. Rocky Run should be a 100% Chantilly feed but instead it's 29% filled with AAP for current Stone and Liberty. Total 270 students and it's 54% capacity if FCPS moves them out. |
You’d have to ask the Navy Oakton Moms. Scenario 3 would actually keep all the Navy kids together, going to Franklin MS and then to Chantilly HS. It certainly is closer. |
And this would k8ck out Lees Corner which is closer than Navy. |
Well, they can have Lees Corner and Navy at Chantilly but that would mean another Chantilly feeder ES would be moved to Westfield. |
They are going to revise the scenarios so that Lees Corner stays at Chantilly HS. |
| That’s why I think Scenario 2 is best. It doesn’t have kids moving high schools. Only middle schools. |
What are you talking about? Hundreds of kids-maybe 1000-- switch high schools downstream from Skyview in 2. |
Not the kids that poster cares about, though. |
We'll see. That's what the McDaniel and Dixit said. |
| Maybe they should put a pause on revising boundaries until they see what happens with Skyview. It’s possible that will relieve some of the crowding issues and they won’t need to move kids out of Chantilly HS. |
Isn’t Chantilly overcrowded? How does this solve any overcrowding issues? |
Can you give some examples of the moves please? |
You can see on the map for scenario 2, click on High School. Anything in stripes is moving to a different school. 1800 kids to Skyview from other high schools and multiple secondary moves to backfill Westfield and I guess for other reasons at other schools. (How are you having this conversation if you don't understand how to read the maps?) |
What do you mean by "what happens with Skyview"? They need to set the Skyview boundaries ASAP. Are you suggesting they set the Skyview boundaries and then not move anyone else around until they see how the moves shake out? |
|
If they pulled kids into Skyview from Oakton, South Lakes, Chantilly and Westfield in about even numbers, that would be doable.
Their current plans seem to pull almost all the Skyview students from Westfield, which creates a huge headache for them: trying to backfill the least popular and largest school building. |
