Why are WASP so elite?

Things will be just fine if you can stop craving validation that isn’t coming.

Craving validation? Hardly; more like whacking idiots for fun and sport.....it's just a game of low hanging fruit with the mental midgets that inhabit this forum. A few lucky should might pick up a bit of education as well if they can get out of their own biases.

Where did you go to school? People in glass houses…

I don’t consider them Ivy-tier signaling because folks on the West Coast are not familiar with all of them. They don’t have national recognition.

Of course they do, especially among the PE, Big Law, Tech Finance, Strategy crowd. Williams, Amherst, Bowdoin, Middlebury and the rest of the NESCAC have kids from Bay Area schools like Woodside Priory, Nueva, Crystal Springs, Menlo School, Castilleja enter pretty much every year. They aren't as well known as some of the major universities but they don't care because they have great results from the elite privates.

A non-selective public.

I'm willing to acknowledge excellence when I see it. I had a good experience at a roughly 4k student school and have done far better than most and now with exposure, experience, and hindsight I recognize what an amazing place a top SLAC is in terms of education.

Only Williams and Amherst have any cache. Perhaps upward mobility of Bowdoin. The rest of the NESCAC is on a long slow decline.

Can’t believe people pay 95-100k to go to these obscure schools. Ivy Plus yes but these Podunk schools aren’t HYP, Duke, or Stanford.

Those schools are safe havens for kids that are full pay from private/ boarding schools. Very little diversity at those schools.

Just stop…..WASP Bucknell flamed out for you and now you are trying a backhand boost. You really aren’t helping Bowdoin, and they don’t need help.

Your racism is showing.

Nice try at slipping Duke into the group but we’re in to you. There are a dozen R1s and a dozen SLACs which are just as good as any of the schools that you mentioned.

That’s what I thought too and I’m from the DMV.

Well known for the last 50 or 60 years at least. Your lack of knowledge isa likely because of the poor education that you received at a public.

Don’t get all huffy when people have no clue where your child went to school.
And why does that matter so much to you? Most schools are irrelevant, so might as well go to one where you may be happy

It is funny people get so wound up about college at all. Especially when you, DP, do not even go, it is your child that is the student. It is sad to see parents who have no self worth, emotional intelligence, maturity, or identity beyond their child and the college they attend. It is trite and pathetic. Do what is right for them not your ego, or the social status cache you think it is. If it is Amherst they want, so be it. If it is UVA, so be it. No one cares where your DC goes to school and very few people care about you either.

Most honest thing on this forum.

Amherst Early Writes out. Did anyone get one? Letter says 17,500 applicants this cycle, up 2K from last year, which set a record. That means acceptance rate 5-6% versus 7% last year.
